Hi
Can any one tell me where on the engine is the throttle body, is there any sites with a photo I have had a new one fitted and as it was quite costly would like to check if it's a new one.

Yes they do. Air throttle body. Sits ay the front underneath the egr valve. There are plenty of threads on this topic. Part cost 278 plus vat from seat, 200 inc vat from a factors and it takes 10mins to fit, but the dealers take about 200quid.

It's not a throttle is an anti shudder valve - diesels have no throttle as such because engine speed is governed by the amount of fuel injected no air drawn in. This component serves only to shut off the air supply when the engine is switched of.

On the 1.9 it's at the back of the engine on the left hand side before the egr and on the 2.0 it's at the front under the egr on the manifold.

Number 8 in this picture for the 2.0ltr TDI BKD engine.

Yeah it's just a shut off valve to starve the engine of air once the ignition is turned off to prevent run-on and give a smooth cut off.

During normal driving and acceleration it serves no purpose and remains in the open position.

Also, as stated it's primary use is to stall the engine on shut down to stop it running on. It's secondary function is to half close when the EGR function is enabled to create a vacuum through the EGR valve.

Usually the teeth inside the motor unit snap and jam the motor and stop The valve opening. Car will drive fine, but will rudder on shut down and of I disconnect it to stop noise I sometimes get, u will get an engine warning light. Oh and the motor part is filled with oil.
