SEAT ALTEA 2007 reference BSE engine.

Have had this problem for months now and its slowly starting to irritate to the level of no more SEAT cars for me.[Actually its a damn good car but its funny how some small things get to you]

I put this is as a heading as I believe its related but the symptoms are as follows.

Doors will sometimes refuse to lock
When they do the alarm goes off intermittently.....waits till 2am usually.
Interior light is sometimes stuck on.

Took it to a dealer who said:-

Its the drivers door lock mate...always happens...the machine is reporting the door open when its not.
Q ...are any other doors reporting not closed?
A No mate just the drivers.
Q are you sure
A yes.

Replaced the drivers door lock assy.
You already know the answer dont you that involves getting out of bed at 2am.:censored:

Anyway am posting this in case anyone else suffers from this and will shortly be taking the passenger door to pieces. When I do i will take some pics and post here.
Before I do i was wondering if anyone else has a good explanation of how these door locks tie into the system ie what lines the micro is watching etc.
I gather that the whole thing is monitored by the convenience unit and alarm is a part of it.

if anyone can offer any information I would be very attentive.
Thanks

This will not help much, but had similar issue on Ford C-Max. I had the Door Rubber seals replaced which involved removing the door panels. After that Car alarm would go off (usually middle of the night) when it felt like it. Would go for weeks with no problem, then 2 or 3 times in a week, totally random.
I had the Log in the CANBUS controller checked and it would report different items each time, 'Radio Removed', 'Door Left Open', 'Alarm Module unplugged' etc etc. They even changed a number of the CANBUS control modules. It was driving me spare.
Eventually on 1 visit, one of the Mechanics said that on some other models, there is a switch in the drivers door to isolate the Ultrasonics on the alarm, but it was not fitted to my car (blanking plate in door). He got a switch from stores and fitted it into the Plug in the Loom, Never had the problem again !! (even though the switch did not actually do any thing, it no affect on the sensors at all).
I suspect something was disturbed when the doors panels were removed, and fitting this switch just kept the system happy.
With Modern cars the cental Brain just taks all the inputs from the sensors and switchs and then outputs what it considers to be the correct action. If it gets spurious inputs, anything can happen.
Best of luck in tracking your problem down.

oo this sounds so familiar
golf mk 4 door locks have a small circuit board in em, over time as the door is shut the circuit board flexes and a you find the door doesnt lock or locks and unlocks itself

and the alarm doesnt arm properly etc etc , soultion with a golf was a new door lock

deep joy

Had an Audi A2 in which there was a scratch through one of the lower heater elements - most likely damaged when the boot was overloaded. That disrupted the circuit (break glass sensor) and sent the alarm haywire the whole time.

It took a very long time to solve the problem and I was was shafted when it came to paying the bills[:@]

Ended up removing removing the fuse for a bit in the central locking as the neighbours weren't too chuffed - phone call from the Council . The only fix was to replace the rear window, with fixed spoiler assembly.

In summary, the diagnostic sounds correct i.e. that something very minor is disrupting the circuit, even if the repair hasn't been to date. Would've been nice if they had started with cheaper solutions, rather than the costly full door lock assembly.

Thanks all who have replied to this post.
I am on a mission now to get to the bottom of.
I'll let you know how i get on.

I am convinced though that its the door that is still causing the problem...it might be wiring back to controller.
It is intermittently allowing lock still and no amount of bashing panels etc can get it currently to change state...its currently refusing to lock.

Quick update

Took passenger door to pieces
Took door lock to pieces.....dont try thiis at home.
Thought it might suffer from a similar posting of dry solder joints on passat.
Door lock assy has chnaged a little and is now encapsulated in resin.
Two motors fitted in assy for deadlock and open.
Phasing is f difficult to put back together without some instructions and the patience of jobe.
Upshott is that since the drivers door lock was replaced the passenger door does not open when using the remote. It locks fine though.
Ordered new passenger door lock and for good measure the convenience unit.
Getting a little annoyed with it now.
The erwin website does not explain the lock system very well and the wiring diagrams are next to useless. All the wiring in the doors is also very well concealed and a mother to inspect.
There is also the probblem that the wiring is unclear as to wether the door lock loops through the window unit in the door or its lin/can back to convenience unit.
next change pass door lock/convenience

Scientific version.

Plug in vas sniffer and check what door modules think.
Front drivers door says open....its closed!
Interior light on permanently.
Cant be door actuator...new one fitted.
Maybe problem with status from door actuator to door module.
Strip door and remove module.Take module apart and check board.Pins from the door actuator are a push fit into the board.Decided to solder them in .Refitted the board and bingo it works.Tested overnight and no alarm:funk:

Door module talks CAN to comfort unit.
Rear door modules talk LIN to front modules.

Next problem is no reverse light and rear fog.
Controlled from network control unit.Under dash above fuse box.
Vas says switches are working but no drive to bulbs.
Light on dash says bad bulbs.
Injected feeds to rear lamps and works ok.
Suspect nw box....or maybe configuration?.....anyone any ideas?

Door unit is in the door.
Strip thew door tp pieces and replace the board.
The board talks lin to the convenience unit if i remember

found the unit, soldered the pins and works fine now.

glad thats out the way

Hi,

Had the same problem with my front passenger door. It turn out, after changing the door lock, that it was the door locking control unit that was faulty. It is a common problem according to my local dealer, to a point where the controller units are on a 7 day back order...
