Altenator Belt replacement problem

Alrite folks,

My 2005 FR tdi (pd130) ate its altenator belt the other day.

Went to Halfords today and picked up a new one. Part No - HB1150g

Tried fitting is as per the guide in the FAQ on here by putting a spanner on the tensioner pulley but it won't go on.

Is this the correct part no?

Is there any other way to get the tension off the pulley. I've put almost 180deg of turn on the pulley nut and it won't go any further but the belt is still not near going on.

The only difference I've made from doing it as the guide says is I've gone from underneath as I can get more rotation rather than having the fuel pipes and boost pipe in the way on top.

Thanks for the replies.

I dont have the old one. It shredded and came off whilst driving. So cant compare.

I take it then the 1150 that is referred to is length of belt? If so the 1180 sounds like a winner.

I'll give that a try.

Cheers

check the frewheeling alternator pully as this is biggest cause of belt faliure apart from old age lol
