Ambient lighting in Formentor V1

Hey guys,

I just picked up my new Formentor V1 on Tuesday and I can't seem to get the ambient lighting to work? I'm aware that this only works at night anyway but when I go on the settings I'm presented with this screen:

I can't see any options for you changes the colours etc.

Any ideas?

I'm still learning the car as well but there's a button top right says "off", touch it to turn it on?

In the v1 you don't get the wrap around lighting if that's what you're looking for? The other (door etc) is extremely hard to see unless it's dark. From memory I think you tap the individual bulb icons to set each area.

Hi, having test drove the 71 plate v1 and making a purchase like you I thought I would be getting the wrap around ambient lighting on the vehicle and was some what perplexed that it did not work on collecting the vehicle only to find they changed the spec and removed it on all 22 plate models.
I have complained to Seat/Cupra regarding the mis selling of the vehicle as all brochures intimated it came with the lighting and some sales people even used this as a selling feature and at the point during the sale was I was never made aware that it no longer came with the ambient lighting; the dealership can not activate it as this would be classed as a retro fit..

If I was you I would also complain regarding the mis selling of the vehicle..

Unfortunately, I don’t think you‘ll get anywhere with your complaint if you were hoping for some form of financial compensation or goodwill gesture from Seat / Cupra or the dealer.

Page 5 of the October 2020 Formentor brochure (the launch brochure?) does mention interior ambient lighting being standard on the V1, and on page 14 it states that interior ambient lighting was standard on all Formentor models, including the V1, but it doesn’t specify whether or not that includes the wraparound lighting, and if so, for which models.

When the brochure was updated in August 2021 (which should have reflected the spec of 2022 model year cars as 2022 model year vehicles could be ordered from July 2021), the V1 was still shown as having interior ambient lighting (page 13). However all other models are shown as having smart wraparound interior lighting. So the V1 got basic ambient lighting (presumably doors and footwells?) but not the dashboard wraparound feature of the other models.

So assuming you ordered a brand new V1 and you ordered it after Jul /Aug 2021, then IMHO the brochure content should have helped clarify how the V1’s ambient lighting differed to the ambient lighting in other Formentor models.

Like pretty much all car manufacturers, Cupra include the statement circled in red on the screenshot below (from the Oct 2020 Formentor brochure) in the event that vehicle spec details on brochures differ to the actual spec of the vehicles they’re building, due to such things as model year spec changes, to minimise the number of queries / complaints from customers over the spec of their cars.

Ha, ha; I’m inclined to agree.

I know we all have different likes and dislikes and have different priorities on what’s important and what’s not important as far as equipment and features in a car is concerned and IMHO that’s a good thing; life would be boring if we all liked the same things. However, based on various discussion threads on this - and other - forums, I am surprised at how important a thin LED light strip running across the top of the dashboard is considered by some. Car manufactures marketing teams must have done a great job of brainwashing convincing owners and potential owners it’s a ‘must have’ feature; same with multiple colour selections for interior ambient lighting. I managed to survive for many years owning cars without features such as this and wouldn’t consider it to be any great hardship if a car I bought in future didn’t have these - or similar - ‘must have‘ features.

Just my opinion though, and absolutely no offence is intended to anyone who‘s a fan of the wraparound ambient lighting ?. As said above, we‘re all different and have different likes, dislikes and priorities.

I’m sure I read somewhere that the LED strip is present but can’t be switched on normally?

Can anyone confirm this and is there any way of switching the lighting on if this is the case?

Aww sad times. I’ll just have to do without in that case as it’s due in a couple of weeks.

I was wondering if it was maybe able to be activated with one of those OBD-thingymabobs?

I think I got the same problem. The difference is that I got my Formentor preowned. I bought it from Sweden and on the ad it clearly says "smart wrap-around interior lighting - multi-colored" but my led strip around the dashboard doesn't light up and my "Backgr. lighitng" screen looks exactly like yours. I guess I don't have the ambient lighting strip after all!
Do you have the spec sheet for yours? Does yours say qq9 or qq8 anywhere? Or any QQ with any number ?
Also Do you have the logo projection on the floor when you open the door? I read that the logo projection can only be equipped with the ambient light strip.

Like most who bought from late 21 to 22 onwards have been somewhat mislead.
I don’t know anything about the QQ references and mine has the logo projection but no ambient lighting on the dash so that’s another misconception..

Just have to accept that the V1 from mid to late 71 plate and onwards doesn’t come with ambient lighting on the dash..

OK so after a bit of digging and translating from Swedish I figured out that the option that I have equipped is the one without the dash led strip. However the description says that you should still be able to choose colour. Here is the translatoin:

"The interior LED lighting consists of front and rear reading lights, lights at the sun visor, lighting at the center console and the LED foot area. The interior ambient lighting in LED can be found in the door panels, where you can choose up to 7 different colors. Depending on how you feel for the day."

Did anyone figure out how to change the color in the version that doesn't have the led strip on the dash?

My lights in the door panels are fixed and can’t be changed , red is the only option..

You should dowbload the catalogue that belongs to your country where you can see what is standard and what is an option

I have a V2 delivered in June and it has the ambient lighting I can set to different colours. So yes.

Hi,
I have an issue with ambient light on our Formentor VZ ehybrid (My2024).
Since new, the ambient lights were always on. But 2 or 3 weeks ago, they only light up "at night" (actually, when low beams light up in AUTO mode).
I've searched in the menus, tryied several settings, but no way! I can fix it!
Does anyone face the same problem?
I plan to let the dealer fix it anyway (as still under warranty), but I'd be glad to know if someone has found a solution.
