American head units

has anyone purchased an american head unit off ebayer or somewhere? I am a bit concerned that it only tunes into odd-numbered radio stations, has anyone had a problem with this?

i've heard of some sort of conversion being done on jap import stuff might be whats required?

something to do with the useable FM freq range used in japan is too limited for the UK so you need a converter to expand its range
