According to the industry newswires, the Amethyst Motor Group, which has Honda dealerships in Cheltenham, Gloucester and Chippenham, has ceased trading with immediate effect.

An administrator is yet to be appointed. The group also represents SEAT in Cheltenham. Whether the SEAT side has been affected of not is unknown at the moment as the newswires have concentrated on the Honda side of their business.

But seems to be sensible to consider the SEAT business has also ceased trading as the group has folded.

According to the report a member of staff was quoted:

"All the staff were sacked at 4pm yesterday. There's no money for staff, we were told one day before pay day. How do we pay our own bills?"

they have been trimming down over the whole group for a while and locally it's been guessed it would happen at some point soon (4th nov allegedly)

all cut off the day before payday leaving the staff in lurch does not surprise me at all to be honest, sad but true.

Sad state of the industry, as many seem to be going to the wall. Shame considering Amethyst were the first SEAT dealer to really embrace SCN, well for a little while at least. :D

We gained you though Flapper, so we did ok :D

was a grand old joint that place at the start almost perfect as those involved all had years experience of seeing it done the wrong way and for a few more years after to be honest

as usual though with trade overall having dwindled for so long it followed suit as the good ones left etc and expanding too far hoping a larger group takeover that never came etc etc

shame to be honest but as some of us old 'uns agreed last night it was good that we had at least once been able to do it 'right' for a change

downside is a lot of 'good' people have been truly screwed i would imagine

Don't think it will be the last one we see go either which is a shame. Must be horrific for the poor workers who's mortgage payments will be going out imminently. I love the way big businesses can be so diregarding of staff yet expect total commitment in return. I know it's not an easy time but it's not pretty.

All the more reason why SEAT should treat it's customers with some compassion as their dealer groups are not the most established in the UK.

just add there's a lot of staff were there before me so have racked up a good 10 yrs service odd so i guess they saved some redundacy cash too

local ford dealer is thinning down amongst other trades laying off quite a few especially in construction but i guess it's gonna be rough all over for a while yet

Servicing

So given Amethyst is now well and truely closed, does anyone have any recommendations for a nearby garage to get my cupra serviced?

Another one bites the dust!

It happens all too often in this trade, I think we all saw it coming when things got too competitive. Dealer principals think more sites and low prices = more sales and more profit, but it never really works that way. The only way you win in this trade is through top customer service, so I hope SEAT dealers play nice for a while!

We are currently undertaking quite a bit of work for previous Amethyst customers and will be extending out collection and delivery service into the Cheltenham area in the new year. As well as having the largest SEAT showroom in the Uk we also have a dedicated Cupra/FR showroom. If we can be of assistance please phone us on 0117 972 4242 or visit us at www.bristolseat.com
