Annoying Squeaking Noise From Driver Side Wheel?

Hi guys,

Was really hoping someone could help with this, it's doing my head in!

So I recently had to drive to Manchester airport from North Wales down the dual carriageway. On the way back I noticed the traffic had suddenly stopped and I ended up having to slam the breaks on! After this I noticed an annoying squeaking noise coming from the driver side front wheel, at least I think it's the front. I don't know if the slamming of the breaks on had anything to do with the noise but it's only after that incident I've noticed this.

The noise can only slightly be heard with the window closed, but on a nice sunny day, like today, with the window open it's extremely noticeable and so irratating. It sounds like a hamster in its running wheel, squeak squeak squeak, as the wheel turns but it stops when the brakes are applied. It's not constant just every now and then but happens at least once on every journey 5 miles +.

I've had the car in the garage and they've said when they test drove it it never happened but they skimmed the brake disk and checked the brakes and there was no faults. So what could it be!? I'm going insane listening to it, I have dreams of the noise [:@] ... Bit dramatic, but it is annoying.

All help as always is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I had an annoying squeak on my Leon and I found that the brake guard (black metal bit behind the disk) was some how doing it... Mine was quite loose and when this was fixed at the garage the noise went away...

Although mine was a rear wheel I am now not sure if the front even have the guards on them lol

Maybe worth a quick check...
