Got standard 16's on my standard TDI 140, I believe the tyres have been on since new and now on 17K and fronts are getting near legal limit, backs have loads of life in them, question is..

should I stay with Bridestones or try some F1's bearing in mind winter is coming, I don't drive like a nutter (but I do corner fast) and I hate spending money.

Goodyear NCT5 or Efficient Grip - save you money on fuel.

I've had them on and already had 17k out of them and there's 4mm tread left.

About £60-£65 for 205/55

Or Falcon FQ450's
Got mine for 60 euro each and there miles(kilometres) ahead of the old pirelli P6's

Hi, If you aint keen on spending money (like me) and are not fussed about brand hype try theese bad boys:

I had theese back when I had my VTR and they handled well and were quite quiet on the road, also Auto Express give them a fairly good write up.

Give them a go.

Just a thought - as winter is coming up and you have plenty of tread left on the rears, some say after testing various set-ups, that you'd be better off putting the new tyres on the back. Apparently part-worn on the back & new on the front = slides and poor roadholding in bad weather / rain / poor road surfaces?

Anyone else hear the same or different? BTW the scenario of poor grip was with front-wheel drive cars...

As I say, just a thought to consider. :)

Agreed, You are correct. Michelin recommend that on front wheel drive cars that the best tread should be on the rear:

Many people think otherwise though.

I bought a pair of tyres from kwik-fit a few years back, they recommemded the fresh rubber go on the back, so they swapped the rears over FOC.

Good link.

My mum needed two new tyres on her Yaris a few weeks back and I told her to insist the new ones were put on the back... The service guys (Toyota stealers) argued that new tyres should *always* go on the front 'cos it's a front-wheel drive and said to ignore ill-thought advice by me! :p  :thumbd:

Well my mates missus works for a Skoda dealer so might be getting a good deal on some decent tyres, he got 2 for his 18's for a little over £30 each so I am hopeful she can do me a mates rate deal :D

Just to finsih off this thread I went for these, instead of messing about I went to local tyre place and did a deal, £105 fitted. They are on the back so can't comment too much on performance but putting my others on the front has settled the car down a lot, especailly on take off.

Just on a side while I was delivering to my local Hyundai dealer some brand new i20's had Kumho branded tyres on them in the forecourt (not that its a good thing :D)
