OK, I'm struggleing to decide on my lease car.
Not had a lease car before, initially was going for the ST but worked out it would be to expensive on fuel....not so sure now,

But...

my current dilema is between the FR TDI or the FR TFSI.
My insurance, tax, repairs, tyres etc. will all be paid for by my work.
I cover about 6,000 private miles per year and 6,000 business miles per year.
For the business miles work pay me 11 pence per mile.
My maths is rubbish and really struggleing to work out if there would be much savings for me having the deisel over the petrol.

I have researched this on the site (using the search button) and alot of peeps say the main saving between the two cars is in the road tax and insurance, neither of which I will be paying. The TFSI will cost me £20 per month more on the lease.

Any mathamatitions help me out?

Cheers all!

I did manage to work out that at 30mpg on 98ron petrol it would cost me about 14 pence per mile (I think)
But, isn't deisel more expensive at the pumps?

Cheers Googies...

but from what I read there is not as big a difference in the MPG between the Deisel and the petrol as you would expect, so if I'm only covering 1,000 miles per month would I notice much difference?

anyone?

please?
(need to get the order in soon:redface: )

Petrol FR: combined fuel consumption = 35.8mpg so 75% of that for real world mleage = 26.85mpg

6000miles at 26.85mpg = 233.46 gallons or 1015.87 litres

Fuel price = £0.959 for Optimax, so fuel cost for year = £974.22

Deisel FR: combined fuel consumption = 47.1mpg so 75% of that for real world mleage = 35.33mpg

6000miles at 35.33mpg = 169.85 gallons or 772.14 litres

Fuel price = £0.919 for Shell deisel, so fuel cost for year = £709.60

Annual saving therefore for deisel would be £264.62

6000 miles for business (regrardless of fuel type?) at £0.11p per mile = £660.00

The petrol figure I used was my local Optimax price, so std 95RON stuff will cost less than this...

I have used both 95 and 98 ron petrol and the price per tank is about £3.50 - £4 more with the 98. Still get the same MPG but I did notice a difference in acceleration.

I am getting about 250 miles to the tank around town and need to refuel every 8 -10 days.

Judging by Emm's very kind calculations, over 12 month period with the petrol, I would be forking out £314.22 on top of their milage allowance... I just wouldn't be happy about that at all, and sure I wouldn't enjoy driving it half as much, would be too scared to put my foot down and use even more fuel.

With the deisel I would still be forking out £49.60 of my own dosh, which isn't as bad, and would rather that than having to find a deisel car that does 55mpg.

So... decision = Leon TDI FR, Candy white with bluetooth, and awaiting another quote to see how much the 18's would add on to the lease.

Can you believe I have to pay approx. £5 more to have the white, as Arnold Clark make the metallics cheaper as they are easier to resale

Cheers all for your assistance, choosing a lease car is just as difficult as buying one myself.... if not moreso, at least if I use my own car I get 40p per mile, rather than the 11p.

I drove both, and bought the TDI. IMO, even when ignoring the economy the diesel is better to drive in every day conditions.

If you get a lot of chances to open a car up and use the revs then the petrol will be better, but for urban driving, the performnace being available at very low RPM suits me better.

The TDI feels quicker 80% of the time - for me.

Anyone driven both the petrol and the diesel?

Im griving the FR TDI 170 and its a gem to drive, go for it imo!

Yup - The Petrol FR doesn't feel like a turbo'd car like the MK1 Leon, it's very revvy and no lag. The Diesel on the other hand still remains to feel like a turbo, bit of lag and then a good shove from the derv torque. In my opinion the derv is more fun to drive, no need to thrash it, plus it felt slightly more stable around bends, I presume it was the weight at the front (derv engine being heavier than petrol).

I've never been a diesel man, but if I get another Leon it'll probably be the FR TDi. I wonder if the Cupra is very similar to the petrol FR, anyone driven both?

Not for me  it was more expensive for the metallics than it was for the flat colours (although I didn't ask for a price on the white at the time!).

I've not got to the stage of telling them what colour yet, just non metallic, waiting for another quote, with the bluetooth and 18's, just hope the options don't bump up the price too much  or maybe they will make the price less due to the resale thing :)
