i actually have a few code readers and vagcom i just havent registered it and probably could solve the problem eventually but am stuck for time and have hit a dead end, and i dont care what anyone replies to this but a leon is not a simple car not once it has enough miles for things to fail i mean if they were then there wouldn even be a need for vagcom wud there!!! or a million threads all listing a million possible problems and i work mainly in trade (dealers, workshops, etc) so they tend to have all the kit up an ready for me 4 wen i get there, is there anythin else youd like to add?????

i have myself done and know many many people who do "remap" cars, some successful and some not so but i know for a fact that everone of them has at least a basic launch diag machine or similiar capable of reading basic faults from a large veriety of cars.

Im always a little scepticle of people who claim to be "engine tuners" or "remappers" as the equipment is available to eveyone even those with absolutely no knowledge of cars, just buying the gear doesnt exactly make people capable of doing the job and i have seen the conciquences many a time where people take little care and quite easily **** up there customers ecu.

However i might be wrong about yourself and try not to judge. I'd be careful stating your a remapper in threads though as the mods can see this as advertising and ban you.

I've been there and done it when it comes to the motor trade - remapping, milage correction, key coding, diagnostics, immobilliser removal the lot and have taken the knowledge away with me and now focus on my full time job so its not as though i dont know what i'm taking about but as boring as my job can be it keeps the kids in sweets and me in beer.

yeah dont get me wrong im a victim of my own lazyness i do have the tools but only just aquired vagcom as the local vw guy (who just shut down ) had it but my stuff all only had one code for a faulty brake light switch, and i do get alot of people saying anyone can buy equipment an say there a tunner. Well i would love to see someone spend as much as i have on software alone nevermind the hardware. Im the first to admit i walked in to this blind im only 26 but am in the same boat as you (2 kids) and as of 2 days ago a third!!.

but let me jus say i take my work seriously and as im young and as my dad has allways tayght me ill never b to old to learn which is why i spend all my spare time sitting on various sites/forums, trying to learn and keep up to date.

and just to clarify for anyone else who overlooks im not advertising and will not give out my number or website details on this site, as this site is an invaluble resource of usefull information etc etc lol

anyway to sum up i do have more than basic diagnostic tools (snapon), (mactools) there the two i carry with me, but my car shows no basic faults and no freeze frame results etc etc so my next step was vagcom and as u said about wrecking someones ecu, id rather ask for help and learn how to do it right.

Problem is vag-com might not nessesaryly show you anymore faults than your current gear, the biggest advantage is that you can watch all the live data.
On modern cars if there are no fault codes showing then its either a mechanical fault or a faulty sensor that is still sending a reading (be it faulty or not) to the ecu (but because its getting a reading the ecu thinks it ok).

like i said, i've had alot of gear, tried alot of things and have alot of experience mate so anytime you need a question answering or abit of advice just send me a PM.

thanks will do tbh i posted a full description in the wrong section as part of inspecting for faults i had a look inside the tb and it was like a treacle factory so i thought ill get the realignment done at the vw place so i took it of and cleaned it out and after couple days called up and was told they were shutting down and not taking in any more jobs so i thought id have a looksy on here before registering mine, so ya see i was not looking for fault codes as such as i new there was none! but the only other thing i could think off was as you put it the live data, but what good is it looking at it with no experience using it, ill way up traveling to use someone elses and if its to time consuming ill register mine an maybe you could give me some advice on what to look for. thanks

on most of the live data blocks (its refered to measure value blocks on the VAG stuff) it will display the parameters and the tolerence your readings should be within, if not you can visit www.ross-tech.com and it'll tell you near enough what they should be and any fault diagnosis steps you need to take. Worth its weight vag-com and once you've had a play you'll soon get it.
The throttle body bot being aligned wouldnt cause over-fulling, more running faults such as juddering and cutting out.
