my mk2 is currently for sale but as it hasnt sold but its got me thinking.
as its in vgc and rust free im thinking it would be a ideal car for a engine conversion.
i know you can pick up Volkswagon AAA engines and boxes quite cheap these days so like i say its got me thinking.
i reckon 174bhp as standard would be quite fun
i know its quite a easy conversion to do and was wondering if anyone is running this conversion in a mk2 on the forum?

that's because it's about £500 overpriced.

The VR6 is an aged engine, for the cost, you might as well 20VT it... but then you'd be better off dropping the cost of the Ibiza to a realistic £1000, and cut your losses

£1000 your having a laugh aint you.
considering you just got paid out 800 notes for yours by a insurance company i wouldnt say it was over priced at all

anyway the question was has anyone done a AAA VR6 conversion
the VR6 engine may be a aged engine but they are proven engines and if you can pic one up with 90k and full service history for 300 notes and 174bhp as standard and basically a nut and bolt swap why would you want to pay stupid money for a 1.8t plus mega bucks to fit it ?
i have a 1.8t leon and would much rather a vr than a 1.8t anyway

in a nutshell,yes,3-4 have been done by members on here.

are they still on the forum?
anyone know there user names
i know someone who is in the process of doing the conversion at the moment.

i really wanted a change of car but if i cant sell it for £1495,ill be keeping it and looking into the conversion

goto the search facility and go to advanced search,
go by username, and start with vr6 the search will bring up one of them at least

trust me, £800 is well over valued.

But I guess £1500 is right if you can sell it? Had much interest?

Anyway, an engine swap can be cheap, but you'll either have a tat engine, or won't ever finish it. Assuming you're DIY?

all insurance companys pay out on their book valuue at the end of the day.
if like you said it had dents in the roof, black bonnet and needed top mounts and tyres and so on plus 110k then you did do well but like i say that will be their book value for that car in that condition.
mine has no issues, has 87k with fsh vgc and is totally rust free.if someones looking for a clean, low mileage mk2 with fsh £1495 is a bargin

as for a vr lump as you know there are hundreds about and they are as cheap as chips.these motors go on for ever and are bullet proof to be honest

saw one last week including box, ecu, wiring etc with 85k fsh for 200 notes plus the timing chains had just been done with the water pump aswell.even if it cost 300-400 notes its a dirt cheap conversion
a few of my mates have done the conversion on other vws so fitting wouldnt be a problem either pretty much a staight swap compared to a 1.8t
to be honest id just go and buy a mk3 1.8t than waste the time and money on doing a 1.8t conversion in a mk2

bullet proof engines that want to be straight sixes, have sloppy cam chains? if you've got it out, rebuild it first

like i say the one i saw had 85k with fsh and the chain set and tensioners, water pump etc had all just been done.
i wouldnt buy a engine that needed rebuilding to be honest
as long as it was sub 100k with fsh it wouldnt need a rebuild.obiously id do the chains and tensioners and water pump though before fitting it

i have just put a vr6 in my mk2, i was in no rush so i just waited for the parts to come along at the right money

i know its not everyones choice of engine but its what i fancied doing, and i did all the work myself
