Every time I get out the car, I get a static shock when I touch the door to close it. It doesn't matter how long or short the journey is, but it happens each time. The odd thing is that I close the door by pushing the rubber surrounding the window, so it's discharging through the rubber!
Given that we don't exactly get long dry periods here in Glasgow, I don't think it's related to the weather. Could it be tyres? Anyone got any ideas or have similar experiences?
Touching the rubber is probably the opposite of what you should be doing as the rubber seal is an insulator. The static is probably being generated by the friction of your trousers sliding off the drivers seat. I used to find I got this when I wore my suit, but not when I wore jeans as they have no synthetic fibres in. For example I've never got a static shock in a car with leather seats.
So if you can touch the metal door frame whilst moving off the seat, Bob's your uncle.
Of course you could just accept this qwerk and terrorise the neighbourhood cats by calling them over for a stroke when you get out of the car
I'm from Glasgow and have a mk2 ibiza, happens on and off....
don't think its anything spectacular, just what your wearing and where its discharging.......if you got out the car and touched another one before touching the leon, prob have the same effect
