I'm off to Germany shortly for work and will be driving on the way I pass the Nurburgring so figured I'd do a few laps. I have been before just never in a diesel.

I was wondering if anyone on here had taken there diesel before and what lap times I can expect?

Clarkson did it in 9:59 in a Jag Diesel, Sabine did it in 9:12 in the same car. Thats a benchmark to work from/to. and if you see Sabine, give her one from me :funk:

Never been myself but I'm sure that those who have will tell you the 'Ring isn't all about lap times. Take it easy, build up to a speed you're comfortable with and enjoy it.

And be sure to post some photos when you get back. :)

I have been to the ring a few times, done about 60 laps in total so far.

Photo's wise not sure I'll get any good ones as I'll be on my own, so no action pics. I will try and get some pics of the others though. Just hoping the weather is good.

With nothing more than a remap I might add : clicky

9:59 on my first and only lap (was in a rush as on a european rally!) after playing 0 hours of simulated laps aswell ;)

I've been once (though not in the Leon or diesel). Did about 15 laps and still couldn't get below 11 mins! But that was in a 1.4 8v spi Astra!:p Don't think you can just go out there and blast it right from the off, everytime you do a lap it looks different. Make sure your cars fluids are topped up/changed, tyres are in sh*t hot condition and take some spare brake pads or even discs as I had to change mine after about 9 laps! Make sure you fill up well before you get there because fuel around the 'Ring is silly money!

When you come to having a rest (believe me, you'll need one after a lap or 2) , park your car but do not use your handbrake, park on a level surface and leave it in gear or else you run the risk of warping your brakes.

Make sure you also get a 'Ring sticker! I didn't...:(

 not seen my video then :)

Just watching it now! Saw it far too many times while I was there where people thought they could drive like Hamilton and crashed (must've seen 6 damaged cars and 2 serious incidents) on their first go there. Would've expected yours to be quicker though, especially since your Ibiza is mapped and my Astra only had about 60bhp!:p

I have been before, I fully intend to hammer it for for the two laps I'll have time for. I just hope the weather is good because if not I wont get time any laps.

I have to say that all the times I have been and racked up over 60 laps I have never seen a crash. Heard lots of tales about them but been lucky enough not be there for them.
9:59 is a great time for you one and only lap, I have been under 9 minutes but I was driving a 530bhp MTM RS4.

Id have probs been slower in a 530bhp MTM RS4 trying not to bin it!

Not everyone is as crazy as you Mr T.!

 what can I say...

Just watched it, you are a nutter, respect.

Thanks (I think!!) I have to admit, I did go abit fast.. I intended and said for months, weeks, days, hours, minutes before I went on that I wouldnt hammer it, as it isnt worth it incase of damage or taking other cars out on there with no insurance, as I had never been on it before, and I had no idea what was coming next I was a little more tame than I normally would have been in fairness, I even said I was going to take it steady as I put the ticket in the machine and set off, but then I saw the sides flicker white and red and just thought sod it! The rest as they say is history! Wasnt until we watched it back in the car back and worked out the B2G time of 9:59 and from what I can see back on the video I took the corners well keeping in the best line (minus one corner that did catch me out as I caught up the with Audi and thought why is he taking a completly different line to myself into this corner, to find out seconds later why!)

I will be going again, with more power, more handling mods, and better brakes! The old porker got away near the end as I was suffering from major brake fade even after my 312mm upgrade, as I didnt know the track I was braking at points you didnt need to brake on, but next time and after a few more laps, I'll open my car up again :)

Until then anyone wanting to see my nutterness on a track is welcome to pop down to Donnington next week as ive got tracktime :)

OO donny next week. might have brakes done by then and a few other things so might drop down. If I go I'll keep my eye out for ya.

As far as the RS4 goes, it was the best drive I have ever owned, better than the GT3 before it. To honest I could have gone quicker but some donut in an Z4M coupe almost took put in a wall and after that I eased back as my pants where feeling browned. A friend I was with did under 8:30 in a silly quick custom L7.

Not sure what time im on or which day yet but will let ya know as soon as I know ;)

I reckon even with the power I had then, not letting off on the long straights (as I had no idea what was over the hill and didnt fancy doing 120mph into a corner!) and knowing the track better I could have taken 20/30 seconds off!

Looks like your doing the same mods as me in the future, should crack a minute off then im hoping :)

For reference mate here is how my car looks from the outside ;)

Have done 15 laps. A while ago mind and lots of work has been done to my car since. I went when it was cold so had to be careful. I refuse to time laps as I know if I do that I will likely bin it. I just go there to enjoy the 10 minutes a lap. :D I actually often went out when it was raining as I could spend more time enjoying the track & scenery, and not having to keep an eye in the mirrors all the time on the lookout for 911s and the Ring taxi.

dirtysac - that RS4 sounds similar to my mate's. He's just got rid as it was too expensive for 21 mile daily commute. It was an Avant estate, dark metallic green, 520/40 bhp, brake discs the size of dustbin lids and scared the bleedin sh$t out of me the 2 times I went in it. Handy for carring the kids and dog though.....
There is a good video on U tube, of an Alfa GTV doing the ring. Very smooth drive, looks quite a lazy drive - lots of too early, slow braking in my opinion. Only a stock twinspark, not V6 but he still didn't use the gears/engine like an Alfa needs.
However, not having been anywhere near the ring other than on a PS2, I stand to be flamed! :)
