Hi everyone. I've recently bought my LC which came with LCR alloys on. The car also came with 225/45/18 tyres made by 'Runway'....... who the hell are these??!!
Having searched about the forum I'm thinking the tyre profile should be a 40 not 45. Maybe the 45 profile tyres were cheaper hence why they were chosen? But who knowns?
I seriously need to change these tyres ASAP. They are nothing short of lethal and should be band!
Now, having just bought the car and having it fully serviced including timing belt etc I ain't that well off at the mo and christmas is here too, but I must change these shoddy Runway tyres. I'm looking at Uniroyal RainSport 2's. Anyone else had experience with these tyres?
I would go for a 'considered' more up market brand but cost is an issue and the uniroyals are in my budget range at the moment.
Plus, would a 45 profile work???

Cheers

I have the same question about the Uniroyal Rainsports, im considering getting them for my car but they are classfied as a "summer tyre" and thats what im trying to get away from with this snow..

See what you mean about the summer tyre, but I've read quite a few reviews on many brands of tyre and the uniroyals are highly rated in all weathers and conditions including snow and are up there with the top brands in terms of performance according to most. Only thing is there aren't any reviews of these tyres being fitted to an LC/LCR so thats the reason for the post.
Maybe the uniroyal doesn't suit the LC/LCR. Thought I'd try and get peoples opinion.
At the end of the day you can't cut corners with tyres, unfortunately I don't have the cash for the likes of Goodyear, Conti etc at the mo, but I got to get rid of these Runways.

Try looking at Kuhmo tyres, they are pretty good.

I recently changed the fronts on my Ibiza '05 TDi FR from Nexen N6000's to Kumho KU31 87W.

I wanted Rainsports having read good reviews, but couldn't find any suppliers who had any or could get them.

I ended up with the Kumho's and I am glad I did, they're excellent - not least in the snow

Put a pair of these on the front of the wifes Mk 1 Leon 6 weeks ago before all the snow & ice kicked in. She has been very impressed by the grip she has had & has been complimentary about them. My A3 with dunlops has been far less easier to drive.
I don't know about how long they will last etc, but I wouldnt have any fears about going with this particular tyre. They were about £90 per corner fitted from Kwik Fit when we got them. We had Falken on before these & the wife already rates these already as being much better.

Thanks for the replies fellas. The feedback is very useful.

I've been using Rainsports for a few years now and they are in my opinion the best tyre available under £100. Better than P Zeros & Potenzas on my Ibiza Cupra tdi.

They are surprisingly good in the snow for a 'summer' tyre as well

That's glowing praise indeed for the Rainsports re the 'Best Tyre Under £100'. I wanted 'em but couldn't find a supplier with any.

I am very happy indeed with the Kumho's though and won't be jumping through hoops contacting loads of tyre suppliers for the Rainsports anymore. When my Michelin Exalto's wear out on the back I'll be changing them to KU31's same as my fronts.

I'd echo the comments already made. After discovering them, it's all I used on my old Ibiza. Brilliant grip in wet and dry, and even got me 100+ mile journeys in the snow last year with no problems.
I've never paid more than £65 a tyre for them either and you can't argue for that money!

sorry guys i couldnt agree less, ive used quiet a few tyres and these were prob my least fav, you get no grip at all, that was years ago on a 1.6 escort, im using falken now and they are better but not by a lot, although i favor a dry weather grip tyre like toyo, perhaps thats why i didnt take to them. ill only ever go for toyo, prada 2's and pos try the other popular brand verdasteins from now on, dont get enough snow to warrent buying tyres for it imo,

I'm surprised about that, in the dry Rainsports are the only tyre I've had that don't spin up in 2nd gear. They were better than the premium tyres I've tried in the dry and a different league in the wet. I've done 80k miles in my Ibiza so I've had the chance to try quite a few tyres on it. I've even recommended them to friends and they have echoed my thoughts and they have more powerful cars (BMW Z3 M, Impreza, Audi TT)
