A very vague ( and of course, non committal ) reply but atleast he acknowledges that owners have contacted VW about engines problems

Please be aware that if an owner has had their engine ‘tuned’ that they should make this clear before any diagnosis or subsequent work is carried out. This would need to be taken into account before any remedial action is suggested as any work or software updates could affect the functioning of the ‘chip’ or have a detrimental effect on the engine itself.

I've heard this junk before. Who actually uses a soldered chip these days. Seat Manchester tried to catch me out with this one saying if we flash your ECU with the new update and there is a chip it will blow your ECU.. I just told them go ahead and flash it there is nothing on there. It is their way of trying to scare you into admitting and engine mod which they will then void your warrenty and they will hit you with a large repair bill.. The crazy thing was my issue was not even related to my ECU. A vac pipe had popped off which they even tried to blame on me.. Since this experiance I am very very wary with dealers trying to catch you out (even when there is nothing to catch out) and it has put me off buying a seat ever again.

Same here with VW - they've even said to me in the past " can you bring the chip in so we can have a look at it ". Huh ? Is this the 80s ??

I would of thought the due to the turbo kicking in after 3500 rpm the supercharger doesn't actually have any input into the peak power produced????
Therefore they won't fit a larger turbo to the 1.4 as the current one is capable of producing the power and will more likely opt for a 1.6 turbo for the 'fast' models?..

Or I could be talking crap!

maybe

it is possible that them flashing a remapped car could harm the engine depending on what kind of ecu update they do.

Nah a dealer ECU flash will just overwrite a Revo map as the computer see's it as a stock map anyway and i'd be willing to bet all other flashed ECU by other tuners will be the same.
Maybe Kev from Revo or Will at P-torque could comment?

Mardon is right. Mine went in for an ECU update I said nothing about REVO and they did not even know it had been done. I just have to get my arse in order and get it re flashed again, tbh cant be bothered at the moment. They did not even comment on BOV and Induction kit.

Was it just a general service though? If it was warranty work I imagine they'd have dug a little deeper.

Shame they couldn't manage reliably what Nissan did all those years ago with the March (Micra) SuperTurbo - grey import. Was not available in this country, was built due to rallying i believe.

There are about 5 remaining over hear I think. Maybe even less than that now. I read a while back a guy was running about 1.5bar from the turbo and about 1bar from the supercharger, if i remember right? Was over 250bhp per ton, can't remember what the actual BHP was??

Now I am confused. Just checked out VW website andf they have now dropped this same engine with 160PS into the new golf cabrio. You would think if they were gonna drop the charger they would start already with the new models just being released. Seems really stupid that they would drop this engine into the car for only about 6 months before dropping the charger. Confused.com!

Who keeps telling you it's going?

LOL, no one actually said it but I read an article some where that this would be happening. I guess I should just wait to hear from VW them selves when an announcement finally gets made.
