Hi all, noticed this on my drivers rear arch when I had the wheel off to try and locate knocking noise (2016, 32k), is this common?/should I get it fixed? Currently only on the inside/leading edge from what I can see

Thanks all

I don’t know if it’s common or not. It could be that when the body shell is painted in the factory the painting robots don’t reach under the wheel arch, so the inside edge doesnt get painted in body colour. It should be protected from corrosion though, as the body shell will have gone through the zinc galvanising process, and it looks as if it’s been primered.

Alternatively, if that part of the car has ever had any body / paint repairs, the contrast between body paint colour and primer could be where the body shop has masked up under the wheel arch.

The plastic arch is covered in mud, not yet cleaned! The metal arch to right of pic is what I'm pointing at!

The garage I got it from said it did have a arch repair by there body guy that comes to the site (pergeot main dealer). I'm guessing a smart repair, I wa sonly concerned as it seemed like I could see 2 or 3 different tones of grey behind it, thinking some might be bare metal (but I literally know nothing about metal/paint/primer

@gamerdood123; the two darker areas I’ve circled do look as if the paint and primer may have been removed, leaving bare metal exposed when the repair was done. Those areas could be susceptible to corrosion and If it was my car, I’d feel much happier from a long term perspective if those areas had some form of paint / protection on them, otherwise they’re likely to rust, and Seat would say corrosion in that area isn’t covered under the corrosion warranty as they didn’t carry out the repair.

It’s the inside edge of the driver’s side rear wheel arch. I’d say it’s at the top of the wheel arch as you can see the sky in the pictures posted by @gamerdood123. Exposed metal in that location does mean it’s exposed to road spray and and road salt.

Could it be wheel rub

Looking at the OP’s signature picture, the car has Seat 18” Performance alloys which (I think) are a 7.5J x 18” wheel with an offset of ET51. With a wheel of that size and offset, there shouldn’t be any wheel / tyre rub - that’s assuming the car has 225/40 R18 tyres, it isn’t lowered and spacers aren’t fitted.

Please ignore the bird poo above ?

Its in that region, there was a scrape by there I believe, based on a photo when I bought it (poor quality photo). It is the inner side/lip. So should I take it to a body guy? How much should I expect to be costing? Thanks all :/

Edit:
Would putting clear nail varnish over the edge of it all do the job? My mother has just suggested it, that's what she done on her old car when she scraped it aparently ???

These are the photos of when it was advertised online, when I went to view it, it was fixed. I bought it months ago so 0 hope of them looking at that now!

As long as it's just the inside of the lip I'd touch it up myself. Make sure there is no rust, clean it up and paint on some primer. Then some nice, thick paint over it. I'd do it with a brush instead of spaying it so it's thicker.

Yes, it won’t ever be seen in that hidden location, so paint doesn’t need to be applied to body shop standard.

If it’s been like that for some months, I’m a little surprised that it’s not showing any visible signs of corrosion, which is making me wonder whether those dark coloured areas are actually exposed bare metal, or if it might be seam sealer that‘s exposed (not sure what colour the seam sealer is that Seat apply in that area on the production line). Whether bare metal or seam sealer, it won’t do any harm to cover it up with some paint.

If there is any rust, be really careful to get it all off. Don't leave a trace, or it will come back and bite you.

Is there 2as 1 spec of rust that came off easily by running my nail over it softly! So I had my body guy look at it (he's a family friend so cost isn't a issue).

He put something on it (I wanna say red something but idk), then put a grey primer, then a thick black sealant. He also advice me to order some waxoil spray, he said the stuff they have in work isnt in a can, and he can't take it to work without his boss getting funny, so I got a rattle can one on order and gone over it all just now, said to do 2 coats to be sure, then should be all good :)
