Are Exterior LED bulbs illegal?

this is obviously in the wrong section but as i have a leon mk1 and its concearning my car AND there are a lot of LED threads in this section at the moment i thought it would be appropriate

was just reading up on getting some LED indicator bulbs for the front, and stumbled across a thread about legalities of LEDs outside

sooo my question is, as iv just brought some LED sidelight bulbs to fit (MOT is due in 5 weeks).....Are LED bulbs on the exterior of the car Illegal??

I don’t think so.

My car has just passed its mot with LED sidelights. as far as I can tell the purpose of a bulb is to provide light where light does not exist, a led bulb does that, assuming their is not a light emittance frequency test in the MOT I wouldn’t worry. The LED bulbs are not "that"much brighter than normal bulbs. and considering newer cars e.g. M3's A8's and XF's all have LEDs as standard I wouldn’t worry at all.

However I’d still like you to be the guni-pig. lol.

i think its more to do with the w4nker lights, sorry led washer jets

technically as long as the colour is correct you should be fine

white/yellow front and red rear

only down side is that mot stations are clamping down a bit on bluish headlight bulbs

thats what i was thinking about new cars, for example the new pasat has led rears as standard, so cant imagine them being illegal in the front sidelights?

anybody else know anything?

edit: the bulbs iv ordered are the ones on MDS's 3rd page, his sidelight bulbs. so no blue in there

just didnt wanna go fitting them to have to remove them again in a few weeks
