Hi all
picking my Ibiza FR up on sept 1st , just wondered if the armrest is a worthwhile investment ? I’m thinking prob yes even at £130.
anyone fitted one and thought waste of money or a necessity ?

Never used the armrest in any car I've owned, as I drive with my hands at 10 to 2. However, my front seat passengers (usually the wife) do sometimes use the armrest.
My last 6 cars have been fitted with armrests as standard.
Would I pay extra to one? No.

I find the armrest useful but not to use it as an armrest - it’s useful for the storage cubby under the hinged lid. Like @Glosphil, I never use the armrest as an armrest though.

My previous car didn’t have one as standard. I could have paid extra to have one when I ordered the car but didn’t bother - IMO the money I saved in not getting an armrest was better spent on petrol to enjoy driving the car.

Thanks for all replies guys , as a few said I don’t think I will use it much but it does make it look better between the seats.
I suppose next thing is to either buy the leather finish or the fabric one ?

I’d go for the fabric one - assuming it will match the fabric on the seats?

I think there’s only 1 leather and 1 Fabric colour available so not much choice on colours - anyone please advise if I’m wrong

I think in reality centre armrests and electric handbrake go hand in hand, trying to use a mechanical handbrake with armrests down to not easy in any cars I've had.
My 2000 VW Passat 4Motion one was just about acceptable and easy to leave down and use the handbrake, every time that car went in for a service of MOT it came back with the armrest up. My wife's August 2015 VW Polo I always drive with the armrest up - but when I'm driving and waiting in the car, I always fold it down and use it when parked. I was banned from fitting one to her previous 2002 VW Polo, I've still to try and sneak in a pair of under seat storage drawers - okay they are also mainly useless, but I like having them in my cars!

Good point. My 2018 Leon FR has an electronic handbrake so no conflict with the armrest. However, my previous Octavia vRS has a manual handbrake that was not blocked by the armrest.

My armrest slides forwards and backwards. It needs to be backwards for the handbrake to be pulled, heh ...

I only use it on long trips, my arms are usually down near my crotch and I hold the wheel with my fingers at the 5 and 7 position, if you can imagine a clock.

Humm, "no comment" on the second para, sliding armrests, I find them a bit annoying, a pity that VW Group did not incorp some sort of limited locking on sliding ones as the one in my 2011 S4 does tend to catch me out now and again.

I had a 18 plate FR without an armrest and a 69 plate ex Lux with an armrest and I definitely preferred it with the armrest, good for storage too. I’ve ordered one for my facelift FR Sport as I think it’s a necessity at this point

Holding wheel at 5 & 7 is not a safe way to drive. Just try carrying out a sudden swerve with your hands in that possition (don't try it with other traffic around!).
9 or 10 & 2 or 3 far better. Not just my opinion - ref the police driving manual.

The armrest in my VW Polo GTI+ is the same as the one in the Ibiza. Maybe it’s the position I have my seat and the reach / rake position I have my steering wheel set at but I‘d struggle to rest my arm on the armrest in my car even if I wanted to (which I don’t), especially when I hold my steering wheel at either the 10 to 2 or quarter to 3 position (as I do).

I have never owned a car with a front central armrest where I could rest my arm on the armrest when driving. I have always looked at the armrest as for use by the front passenger & for storage.

I need armrest only in a long trip in highway and in that case I need to use an adjuster to raise the armrest cover.
