i have a 2005 leon fr tdi and the ashtray is broken as it wont stay shut, is there a way to fix this or is it just a new one?

New one, they wear.
Take it out and see what the problem is, only one screw and the lighter wiring

It probably needs a new one, however, it might just be that the spring has come off. Take it out (a screw and the cuggy plug wiring as LEE69 said) and have a look in the back of it.

took it off and checked the spring, looks fine just seems like whatever catches it has broke.
