No, Im serious.. Lifting in the wet is great fun and looks impressive but Its a slow way of getting round a corner, and its usually too late anyway when unexpected oversteer occurs.
Chris

If I am not mistaken my friend, the only way to drive any car quickly is to FEEL what the front tires are doing. How 'one' wants to interpret ate that information gives massive reactional consequences. There is no need at all to push a 4 wheel drive car into oversteer unless it is necessary. As I said before, the front wheels serve as a barometer of road conditions-and give a direct load reference to your right foot.
Upon encountering understeer, it is possible to lift very gently without 'asking' the chassis to 'give' a rear led stance(due to weight transefer) however, if you so choose then tail led oversteer can be brought into play-This is the slow way round a corner, but a 4 wheel drive car can be pushed correctly without the need for tail led antics..

I am not sure why this thread is 'drifting' so far off topic but all I know is that when it is wet, the massive disparity between cars and drivers really takes its toll and a good driver in a 1.0ltr polo on skinny tires could embarrass an average driver in a wrx on fat tires with a chip upgrade!

Think i'd go for an Evo over a scooby although I haven't driven either, just that most people and reviews seem to point to the Evo being slightly better than the Scooby.

Rememer the Stig with the WR1 round the track?

Sure as Chrisboyle says a 350bhp STi will be quicker than just about everything it comes accross both on the straighs and corners, but this is down to the power and not chassis dynamics which is what we are talking about .

Dont get me wrong I like Impreza's, Im an ex owner and driven a few over the years. They are very quick cars, and out of corners in the wet not much will beat them, but again this is traction from the AWD not handling.

The fastest cars around a track are RWD, this is the best configuration.

And the fastest saloon car I have seen go round combe by the way is a an audi quatttro (old shape short wheel base with over 500 bhp and race prep'd for hill climbs) There isn't a rwd saloon to stick with it.

Chris

Best you get yourself down to Castle combe for an action day and watch the impreza's 'that don't handle' then. I used to blitz anything on handling in my impreza (911's, tvr's, even a countach and all on the wiltshire twisty roads) but then it depends on if you know how to drive and drive fast doesn't it.
