thx dave

i would also take off and clean up the EGR and intake manifold whilst your there. And if your really into it then drop out the intercooler and drain the oil from it.

Cambelt - you will need a locking tool, then vag com after to check timing.

Can I ask a stupid question. But why would there be oil in the intercooler ?

Diesels usually run oily, they burn oil and there will usually be some oil in the boost pipes and itl drain to the lowest part which ends up being the intercooler.

I'm not sure I agree with the "Diesels usually run oily, they burn oil" statement. I have never had a problem with a diesel and high oil consumption (unlike the people who have the 1.4 twin charger petrol)

I think the reason for the oil in the intercooler will be to do with modern emission systems that mean the oil vapor from the crank case (block) must be recycled and burned through the cylinders. Because of the very high compression of a diesel engine there is always compression leakage (blow by) past the piston rings, this is why the oil in a diesel goes black. This blow by causes higher amounts of oil vapor and sometimes actual oil going through the crank case breather system and being burned off via the silly recycling systems. It doesn't always get burned off properly so it collects in the lowest part of the intake system (the bottom of the intercooler) Some people have tapped a hole and made a drain plug in their intercooler for this.

If anyone wants to correct me or add anything on this feel free.

Iv never had a problem with high oil consumption either but a diesel will use oil compared to a petrol. Not to a high extent that its a problem though but they do use oil.

Not always, the tdi I have now doesn't use anything that'll register on the dipstick. Now crappy old petrol cars I've had, they even had in the handbook exactly how much oil they were designed to use. Go figure.

I know Honda engines like to drink an alarming amount of oil, Vauxhall ecotec's like the Z20LET are usually the same aswell. Different strokes for different folks really

i wouldnt bother with an FMIC till 150+

Depends on the car he has. The IC on the lil mk3 beeza was VERY small, smaller than the one on the golf/a3 with the same engine.
When doing high speed runs for quite a long time I remember the oil temp going pretty high and having to slow down, and I was running ~135hp.

you mean intake temp...?

the higher the IAT, the higher the EGT and thus the oil going thru the turbo. At least that's how I get it. Or maybe I just needed a decent oil cooler on the beeza :D

Anyhow, the IC on the ASV ibiza is ridicously small and I'd change it for a bigger one in case of setups involving more than a simple remap.
