Good morning, new to forum and forums in general and hope am posting correctly and give back in any way if not by works carried out by an associated repairer if that's a thing? I have read up the excellent posts about converting from DSG to manual being a new owner with none driveable DSG fault. I am at the initial stages of 50/50 deciding to have the problem properly diagnosed to make sure is viable to then have it fully reconditioned at the same time around £1,000 unless mistaken? From what I gather it would be foolish not to go to this extent and cost even if the fault is easily fixed as with the best will in the world would never be reliable. It is because I have a same full car donor vehicle with less miles in manual with new clutch that giving me my dilemma to convert to manual. As opposed to the write up's I don't have much outlay to convert and time an effort to put in (famous last words), would that dramatically alter the 50/50 with most people? It me if over £1,000 just to find as I suspect, prefer manual anyway and that money better spent with an associated repairer around Wirral area manual or DSG. All I can say about the DSG is has done a lot of stop start parcel deliveries, had a cutting out fault was looked at by a none specialist who went to gear shift electronics got it going but still occasionally cut out be she leaned could wait a bit, start it up and drive (though she then stopped using the motorway just in case!). I mention it had O/S/F door wiring loom replaced if that might be associated but in the end with dash warning light on stopped and would not restart and was recovered home. Some one else had a go on the path and removed gearshift items apart didn't know how to fix it walked off never to be seen again. Hence the gear box itself has never been touched.

Just spoken to a firm and none the wiser but enough for final decision to kiss goodbye to any possibility of even going near a DSG box repair, it will be ripped out and slung and the manual box installed.
