Aux-in...

Morning all,

I'm currently considering a 2014 or early 2015 Leon, probably in FR trim with the Technology Pack. Currently in my Vauxhall Astra i play music and podcasts from my phone through an aux-in socket. But, from searching this forum it seems inconclusive whether the Leons i'm considering have an aux-in socket. Fyi, i've currently only looked online and not had a proper poke around a real car. Is an aux-in socket provided in the kind of cars i'm looking at? If not, what sockets are provided, and is it possible to use them for aux-in with an adaptor of some sort?

It's also my understanding that the sockets are in the glove box. Do you find this inconvenient when you need to change songs, podcasts, etc? Obviously you pull the car over :) but, do you find it a pain to reach over and open the glovebox up to make a change?

I understand that Bluetooth audio is an option, but worry about battery drain. I suppose that if USB is provided i can use that supply power to my phone.

Any thoughts welcome. Cheers!

Hi, the 2015 Leon has an iPod cable and a USB cable, the both plug into a slot in the glovebox, If you have an iPod which has the older connection (not lightning) which allows you to control it through the in car entertainment system. So you don't need to pull over to change your music. Not sure if the USB connection does the same thing as I don't use it. On 2016 models, the ports have moved to the centre console.

So, there is no aux-in (i.e. 3.5mm jack) or no ability to convert one of the provided sockets into one? Also, is the 2015 Leon same as the 2014 regarding this? i'm using my phone for music, i don't have an apple device. cheers.

Not sure if there is a 3.5mm jack as I leave my iPod plugged in and haven't had to look at the ports since! As far as I remember though it doesn't. I believe the 2014 model uses the same connections.

Just went out and had a look. There is no 3.5mm jack. You have a media port which you the plug in an adapter cable which is either the USB or iPod connection. Not sure if you can get an adapter for 3.5mm, maybe someone else on here would know. I think if you have mp3 files on your phone, then you could plug that in with the USB connection or use Bluetooth and play them through the car system, again using the in car controls so you wouldnt need to pull over to change tracks.

My dads mk3 in Spain 100% has a aux in. It's in the glovebox. The USB/iPod connection in the centre near the gear stick.

Probably easier to use the Bluetooth off your phone mate

2014.

What I said might be confusing though as i meant the USB is in the centre on newer ones.

Aux 100% in the glovebox. It's a Spanish one if it makes any difference?

There was no 3.5mm headphone connection. In any I've owned or seen just the Audi MMI interface from the original A7 in the Leon mk3 glovebox until it was updated and they moved the connections to the center cubby hole and changed them to a USB and a 3.5 mm connector

Although it seems that cars for non UK market got a a 3.5mm connection in the glove box

If your looking for an adapter to go from 3.5mm into the MMI interface, maybe ask on the Audi forum, if it's possible someone on there has probably done it

I found a website that suggests that adaptors from Media In to a few different other types of connector (including 3.5mm aux) are available. I would post the link but i'm not allowed as i'm too new here!

Its the battery drain on the phone that i'm worried about if i use bluetooth. I have a smart watch and the bluetooth communication with that drains the phone battery, so i imagine the constant communication between the phone and the car stereo would also be a heavy drain. But i see TheVoice saying above that the extra drain to use bluetooth audio isn't much.
