I started reading this thread and quickly got bored with all the bickering so here's my "awesome" thoughts.

I had this same clutch put in mine late last year, I don't really know if there are better alternatives to this clutch setup but frankly it doesn't really matter to me as I could'nt have been more impressed with this one. I have felt no chatter/noises/rumbles untill recently I've noticed some slight vibrating in the higher gears BUT I have no idea if this is my clutch or not. The feel of the clutch is completely OEM and it made me realise how much my old clutch was really slipping. Long story short, Awesome clutch.

Best bet IMO instead of arguing among ourselves is to get Al or someone from Awesome GTI to post a few comments regarding the details of the cutch or ask them directly.

I agree that awesome are a well organised unit, and i've had a £1700 bill from them only a few months back, but tbh if your spending the best part of £900 for one fitted they should be able to provide you with any of the info you want to know.

OP let us know how you get on with it and if the chatter gets louder or stays silent as ive shortlisted this for my next clutch along with a sachs or a southbend.

also do we know what the warranty is on it....the standard 12 months ?

I seriously doubt Awesome would even contemplate passing off a cheap chinese part such as above. For one it's certainly not gonna help their reputation or repeat business. Look at the speculation in this thread alone and considering how many forums they sponsor on and the numbers of people who cross post on various VAG forums. It would be like wild fire within a week. I'm sure they aren't gonna divulge the complete make up but why should they if all is ok and under warranty etc.. So far several people have them fitted and are pleased with the results. I'd seriously leave the issue be unless there is evidence of an actual problem with the item from Awesome or not.

Lol @ 1 person saying its approved by techniclutch as "that seals it then" atleast you've gone past the annoying stage into the hilarious one now.

When I had my gear box repaired it also needed a new clutch and fly wheel. I couldn't stretch to a SMF, uprated clutch and LSD from Jabbaspor (which is just under £1000 for there kit). So went for the LSD an LUK cluch DMF.
This Awsome kit cam out just after I had the work done. If I needed the work doing know I wouldn't hesitate taking my car to Awsome and having them fit this kit. In fact I'm kicking my self at the timing of it. I can't imagine awsome fitting substandard parts on there valued customers cars (and they do seem to value there customers highly).
To be honest I've never heard of Southbend? Is he a character out of the carry on films  Carry on forum may be?

I think out of the matter of balance, so anyone searching on google who comes across this thread, seeing that it's "approved by techniclutch" so for matter of balance I think I saw a sticker on there somewhere saying it was approved by mclaren Mercedes F1 team.

Do you mean the excellent Vodaphone Maclaren Mercedes F1 team? Was it signed by Lewis and Jenson as well???

The fact that El has driven his car very hard since owning this clutch and reported no issues and still being very happy with it just makes me curious to Leon2012's wild accusations....................

Gotta love a thread like this.

Right guys, A quick post regarding where we stand on these clutches:

The flywheel is a Valeo unit from a DMF --> SMF conversion for a different vehicle
The clutch cover is a Sachs unit from a different vehicle
The release bearing is an LUK one.

All of the components within our clutch kit are from O.E. suppliers.
As for the friction plate we are not willing to give this information out due to the sensitive nature of this other companies or competitors looking to replicate the kit.

We have now sold over 100 kits worldwide, Many of which have been sold to UK customers.
As of yet we have not had one of these kits either returned to us, nor have we had any contact regarding complaints or issues surrounding the kit.

What you guys need to remember is that you are dealing with a trusted trader on this forum. The warranty sits with us, and should anything go wrong we will always look after our customer and fight your corner against the manufacturer.

Now please can I bring to your attention this:
* The thread you are currently reading is praise from a customer who actually has this kit fitted to their car
* Another happy customer with one of these clutches

As a general rule, for every 10 happy customers you get for a product, You will only ever see 1 person telling people about it and spreading good word.

The other side to this general rule, is that for every 1 unhappy customer you get for a product, they will tell 10 other people about their problems.

To say that we have had over 100 of these sold, and we've had at least two people singing their praise, and not one person complain seems like good ods to me!

At the end of the day, if you are concerned about this product, then don't buy it. Simple as.
If for any reason you feel this product is inferior, or not going to last, or not a quality piece of kit, then there's nothing stopping you buying a Helix Autosport kit, a Sachs race engineering kit or a Southbend kit.

We've introduced this clutch to fill a gap in the market for us. When we get a customer with a modified car who doesn't want to spend close to £1200 on a clutch and solid flywheel but wants something above and beyond standard, then this kit will do just that!

Before we started selling these, we fitted one to a 150pd golf owned by a good friend of the company who has got a lot of modifications and a custom map running close to 200hp and 360lb/ft of torque.
The car does big miles and gets driven hard. This, to us was the testing we required.

Hope this helps clear a few things up and put a few peoples minds at rest.
Thanks for reading,
Regards, Al.

So am I right in thinking that these are actually decent kits rather than some old shite brought in from china then? ;)

Now I'm sure there was somebody implying very different things to that?!!! Lol

Personally I would always listen to someone who owns and is running the item in question, rather than someone who is just spreading shite for the sake of it and has never actually tried one!!!

I'm glad your clutch kit is the business mate. Enjoy it :)

Questions mysteriously unanswered, regarding user experiences of Awesome GTI clutch kits on Briskoda.net:

- Why did Ali at Unit 18 in Milton Keynes (a reputable garage) say he's fitted one and it was "definately not silent" and the customer was not impressed with it?

- Why are people finding "Techniclutch Approved" stickers on an Awesome GTI clutch sets?

Been told that the kit awesome supply has often been sent out to people with a techniclutch sticker on it

then also

My mate has the Awesome clutch - it did come with a Techniclutch sticker on it.

- Why was someone on Briskoda.net told that some of the parts in this kit are made by Borg and Beck, then this is not mentioned now?

then on another thread:

I've also been told by another source that Awesome's clutch kits are manufactured by Borg and Beck, who are another name I don't associate with the performance market.
