Back brake discs

My Leon's due it's MOT next month and the back brake discs are slightly pitted and one has slight rust when it's been standing. Do you think this will be a failure? Also, if so, how much approx should new back brake discs cost?

Also on the MOT - it has a chip on the windscreen that's quite large - about the size of a 20p piece - but it's really low down, almost level with the windscreen wipers. Driver's side. I'm going to ring my insurance to get it repaired but I can't really afford to get a windscreen at the moment - do you guys think this will be an MOT failure as well?

i don't think either will be a failure. i had 3 chips in my screen last mot and it passed ok, i think as long as they are not in your vision field it is ok. As long as your brakes work properly there shouldn't be an issue? give it a good run to get the rust off first. i'm no expert tho! just offering an opinion.

It's not so much the rust as I'd run a wire brush over it but the fact they're pitted. When it had it's service last week they noted it down though they didn't try to tell me they needed changing, but my Dad who's a mechanic says they might fail.

Hmm, might ring insurance and get their opinion. Cheers mate!

I think so long efficency/braking effort passes its fine. If the rusting is excessive, yes braking performance will be lowered....depends on how bad it is. But driving the car around will soon rid of surface rust.

They are stupid cheap IIRC dude, and not a bad job to change them either (caliper winder and a screwdriver)

if only rust and performance is ok, without an edge which looks like it is flaking apart badly, then you should be fine.
10mm diameter max on chips if in swept area of windscreen is your limit i believe
