Badge fell out of honeycomb grill

So in short, my badge fell out in the middle of the road. I managed to stop, walk back and pick it up. The question is, are these honeycomb badges just slotted from behind until they click in the clamps or is there another piece that is supposed be attached as well. The reason I'm asking is because when I look at my badge from behind it seems as if it was glued to something that I didn't find on the road.
