Diagnostic light came on this morn accompanied by a whining noise from underneath the car near the back (fuel pump?)

Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Mult): System too Rich
P1127-35-00

Any ideas?

Thanks

Diagnostic light has gone out, pump still whining.

Totally confused, any ideas welcome.

certainly sound like it could be fuel pump, as there is not alot else at the rear of the car that would produce a whining.
How much fuel have you got in the tank?
do you run it low often?

how many miles have you done? - have you ever changed the fuel filter?
is there any signs of fuel leaking, (check the fuel filter especially, which is under the car just in front of the rear offside wheel. It lookse like a silver can. These can get blocked or puntured..

77k, I'm not sure the filter has ever been changed. I did get caught out last week and got down to an almost empty tank, the last 1/4 tank dissapeared abnormally quickly :|

Fuel filter was a little clogged, sorted that and the whining is quieter (this is accordign to my mechanic not heard it yet)

I'm still confused at the 'too rich' error, I'm thinking of changing the fpr, would a boost leak cause the same error?

Well, my shortlist of culprits is as follows;

FPR, unlikely I think

MAF, just tested and it hit 193g/s so that looks ok, little low perhaps

O2 sensor?

Indeed but I can't see how the two can be related at all, what could the fuel pump do to make the ecu think the mixtures rich? I'm starting to think it's 2 issues.

Gah, frustrating

Any suggestions for blocks to measure in Vag-Com so I can try and nail down the issue?

How could a faulty lambda relate to the whining noise? I did notice a slightly more gruffer exhaust note under acceleration the previous week, the whirring noise when you open the door is louder also.

Cheers

Garage thinks it is the lambda sensors.

Hmm, fill up with Tesco fuel, shortly after dead pump and sensors :|

Mechanic just phoned, the tank was full of rust.

It's pretty easy to narrow it down to the right petrol station, I only ever use the one! Bloody Tesco.

Is there anything in the entire fuel system that could cause rust to be found in the tank??
