Hey,

Recently purchased a SEAT Ibiza 1.2 TDI 3DR to learn in and drive when (if!) I pass my driving test in the next few months. I haven't been out to drive it yet as I've set my insurance to start at the end of the month. I'm a car noob so sorry for the lack of technical terms. I also don't have the user guide at the moment and the one on the SEAT website is useless.

When I turn the car onto the stage before the engine turns on, the battery light and engine light stay on while remaining in this stage. The battery light is in red and the engine light is in yellow/orange. When I turn the key the full way, the lights go off. Is this something to worry about? The mechanic that tested the car said about it possibly having a battery problem but they drove it 150+ miles to deliver to me so it can't be that bad (I guess).

Thanks in advance :)

That's normal operation, when running there should be no warning lights and when on the ignition there should be handbrake, engine, battery and epc

That's good to know, thanks!

I don't seem to see an EPC light unless it has a different icon on my car and it's only the other 3 lights (plus seat belt) that stay on when in ignition. Could this mean that the light is possibly broke or is it nothing to worry about again?

Nothing to worry about, some of the lights will only come on with an error simply due to the system being able to start up quickly enough, you don't see a light.

While you are still learning and asking questions, now is probably a good time to point out that as you have a TDI, if you turn the key to the first position and the battery light does not light up, then you have a problem, so train yourself to look for that every time you go to start it.

Edit:- for the future, try to start new threads in the main section of this model's forum - that is where they should get started and that is where they will get best visibility - this area is meant for answers to Frequently Asked Questions. (I'm not shouting or moaning here, just trying to get you on the right track as you will probably have lots to ask about.)

Thanks for the help both :) Noted for the future.
