Use a long screwdriver and place it oto something that isn't moving, ie not the pulley lol and put the handle to your ear and you should be able to pin point it better.

Yeah Lee that's what I still think it is but it's been fine for a week, hard acceleration and all..

I will try and pinpoint the noise st the weekend, never like working around the engine in the dark, especially near the belts and pulleys..lol

Did your alternator start to make a sort of rattle/rough noise when it was on the way out?

Had mine tested today, alternator is only running at 11V. So not entirely impressed but it is what it is.
I got a price from eurocarparts for a bosch unit and my local vag specialist will fit it. Hopefully that will be problem sorted.

Did you ever find out what the problem was with the battery light? Mines doing this too, only started yesterday (sat 18th feb) and happened again today, both times under hard acceleration. Now it sounds like i have a loose bolt or something on my exhaust...just think it's a massive coincidence.

For the battery light issue check the little fuse box on the battery flip the cover up and you will see 4 or 5 metal type fuses with wires bolted to them I've seen the live wire overheat and melted and fuse damaged that could be why the battery light is flickering/staying on

Nope never did get to the bottom of this issue.

Although I am getting the aux belt / tensioner / alternator pulley replace at the end if the month.

I've not had any issues with the battery light coming on under hard acceleration for a good couple of weeks (fingers crossed).

I am however getting a rattle from the exhaust area under low revs , heat sheilds are all ok.

So I will just keep an eye on things.

think my alternater is about dead, light came on and went off again after a few miles did this a couple of times but since then its been on permanent so havent really used the car
put a multimeter on battery when engine was running and only showing 11.4volts, car only done 77000 miles not best pleased!!

Dont know if this is related, but it now sounds like i have a loose bolt, or nut somewhere on the exhaust. The noise is coming from what sounds like in between the front wheels and the front door....downpipe or cat perhaps?

It kind of shreaks, not especially loud, when i pull away, from about 1.5k rpm to about 2k rpm.

Not sure if they are two separate incidents or linked somehow.

Have you checked for a loose heat sheild?

Also check the exhaust manifold and downpipe.

I am getting a similar issue, I'm sure it is my exhaust that is blowing somewhere in that area.

Yeah that's certainly something else is could be...it does sound a bit tinny, so may well be that. Only thing is that although i've got a couple of ramps, the cars's so low the splitter will scrap on them before i can get it up on there. Damn thing. If anyone wants to buy it from me and save me the time of fixing it :)
