I would assume its the alternator not supplying sufficient charge while the engine is idle. The car's detecting a draw of current from the battery and flashing the warning light on the dash to let you know.
Once your driving the revs are up and putting in more power than when your idle. You'll probably find just by holding the revs higher while stationary it'll go off after a short time?
My advice is use vagcom to check it and get it fixed asap. Winters around the corner and that will get worse once you start using headlights, heater, demister, fog lights etc etc constantly.
