beep beep beep - temperature gauge

hi peeps my mk3 ibiza cupra has been doing this extremly annoying thing, When i start it up in a morning or any time its cold the temp gauge does 3 loud beeps then the light flashes for about 2-3 mins, it's happened loads and the 1st few times i simply put a tiny amount of water in it, this seemed to stop the beeping and flashing for a few days, now i'm a tiny bit over the max water level and it's still beeping and flashing, I then took some water out so it's got the required amount of water and it still beeps and flashes, basically it's pissing me off as i don't know if it's serious, I'm still running the car as i need transport, anyone else have this problem? Thanks

loads of things to check

Top it up a little bit more over the max than you were before.

I had this problem and since topping up, its gone.
