Hi chaps.

Currently on my 2nd Altea, but I fancy a change and have ordered a Ford Kuga 2.0 TDCi (I know). Hoping to collect at end of September.

Looked on Autotrader and there aren't many Altea's - especially private sales. Anyone had any previous joy selling an Altea privately ? I've sold a few cars privately over the years, but not sure how many people actively search for an Altea !

Mine isn't DSG. But it's the "black magic" Special Edition model with full leather, heated seats, factory bluetooth, MP3, auto lights / wipers, parking sensors, 17" alloys etc...

Will put the car in the For Sale section in the next few days - still waiting for a delivery date for the new car !!

Well, put the car on Autotrader and Pistonheads. Didn't advertise it on this site as you need 50 posts.

Anyway, got the following email last night.....

"Hi there,

I want to come Wednesday to see the car and make a deal with you. I will buy the car for your price but for my security i will need the following details so I can HPI check.

VRM (Reg #) :
VIN:

Thank you for your patience!"

Scam ?

Possible.... the reg number is visible on the autotrader ad, and why someone would buy at the asking price without seeing? I presume yours is the 56 plate at £9750?

it does seem to good to be true.....

Or 15 & 15 days membership as it actually is

Yes, from your VIN plate he will be able to take all your monies.

Technically he could get 'new' keys cut & come & drive it away with this information, though there's far better ways to steal a car. Plus you'd have to tell him where you live. Which you'll have to do anyway, for any potential buyer.

why someone would buy at the asking price without seeing

I've done it before... "is the car exactly as advertised? If so, I'll be up in the morning to buy it."

No point pissing about if it's the car you want for the price you want to pay...

Did some Googling and the email address suffix (@live.com) is commonly associated with Nigerian western union scams. They agree to buy the car, and offer to pay the full price. They send you a cheque, you cash it in, your balance is credited, you release the car, the cheque bounces etc...
