Afternoon all,

The sad day has come and I'm thinking of selling my 2006 Ibiza FR 1.9 TDI (remapped to 165bhp) at ~70k miles.

I'm looking to get a 2006 BMW 3L Z4 and everyones saying that I should sell my Ibiza to contribute to costs, but I really don't want to sell. The thing that kills me is that the insurance for my Ibiza. It's currently £650 a year and it will be only £520 for the z4! Crazy considering the BMW goes 0-60 in 5.7 seconds and has 270bhp. It's also worth at least 3 times the price too.

So, I went on webuyanycars and it quoted me just over £2k for it. Autotrader says as a rule of thumb that it will be around £1.6k trade in.... all of which seems so low for such a great car. Admittedly its in average to good condition (few scratches on outside, alloys, inside, dent on steering wheel, AC needs topping up). But the thing runs great, have had little to no troubles with it. Great economy vs speed. Ride is way too hard (unmodified) but its great considering.

So the question is = what would you do in my position? If you did want to sell how would you do it? If you wouldn't sell, what would you do? (where's a time capsule when you need it!)

Any help big or small much appricated!

Best,

Theo

"webuyanycar" - ah well, you are in for lost of emails for ever, never mind. These webuyanycar prices are only for a car in A1 condition - which no car that age is, also they do tend to be a bit insulting, which is fair enough as all they are doing is picking up any cars that people just want to stop owning - which is different to someone want to sell-on a car as they move on/up.

For Sale section of this forum would be a good start, I can't give trusted advice here as I currently have an extra car - my oldest daughter went out to OZ for a years teaching exchange and I bought her car off her so that she could fund a used car in OZ. That was just over three years ago, she came back from OZ after the year was up, used her car while teaching in UK until summer term ended, and went to teach in KL for a year, then another year, now she has signed up for another year after this school year ends. So, I've been trying to soften the blow of her buying another car when she comes back to UK, my idea not her's - and her Ibiza is now over 6 years old. It is handy to have but means my pride and joy of a Audi S4 sleeps in the garage and we always seem to use wife's new Polo and the Ibiza. So I will have probably dropped £4K+ over 4.5 years for some thing I don't need or probably want?! Plus, it steals space in my driveway, space where I used to park my cars to wash them!!

ah ok not so good then! Perhaps you should gut her car and turn it into a track car? 250bhp remap, wheels, lower, bucket seats? Jokes :)

Maybe I will just keep it a while then and see what happens. Still a great car. Little to no problems with it. Just the cost of maintaining it you see.

Last couple of years thinking of changing my motor, problem is, i still love my motor.
Bought it new.
2008 with 3 yrs 0 % interest !!!!!

Ha Ha, just what your average car dealer hates to hear!

I kept a VW Passat 4Motion 2.8V6 - from new to 13 years and 90K, same for wife's VW Polo 1.4 - from new to almost 13 years and 105K, both were personal imports so maybe worth less than normal if sold on early on.

Selling the Passat was initiated by me finding its replacement - an Audi S4, the Passat's time had come, it was a well liked reliable car! (it still is to someone almost 3 years on)

Selling the Polo was planned as it had reached that age/mileage and it was going to need quite a few things replacing if it was to be kept, luckily it kept going the 4 months it took for a factory ordered new Polo 1.2TSI 110PS SEL to get built and delivered, I had originally said that I would not own it another winter - but I did - then went looking for a new car.
