As per the title, given the ridiculous ever spiralling cost of fuel we are seeing and LPG being at less than 60p / litre has anyone here done this and are there any major pitfalls to watch out for, seriously considering this along with something like a JBS05 to get the best of both worlds, more power and lower running costs associated with LPG.
What about mapping as well is it easy for mappers to take account of dual fuel?

No point. The duty cut being given on lpg is being taken away by the government soon which will make it the same price as normal fuel. Some also say that it cannot sustain performance like petrol.

Feckin' bunch of shysters! any excuse to screw us for fuel, any idea when this is to be implemented, any links to the legislation.
LPG gives about 10 % less power but if it is combined with approx 300bhp who cares!! its enough for me

Duty

I found this on the internet....my guess is that you may be misinformed????

Did you know that cars and other vehicles can run on LPG Autogas as an alternative to petrol or diesel?

Driving an LPG vehicle is safe, easy and, best of all, much cheaper than petrol or diesel. Recent independant tests have also shown that out of the three fuels, LPG is the best environmental alternative.

This website should answer any questions you have and provide you with advice on how to purchase an LPG vehicle or how to have your own converted.

The Government continued to demonstrate its long term commitment to LPG in the 2008 Budget when the Chancellor announced a continuation of the existing guarantee for low fuel duty for LPG through to 2011. The duty will rise by no more than 1p per litre per year more than petrol or diesel. The rates announced are:

* The fuel duty increases planned for the 1st April will now take place on 1st October 2008. At this time duty on LPG will increase only by .135p per litre more than petrol/diesel.
* As previously announced, on 1st April 2009 fuel duty on LPG will rise by .035p per litre more than petrol / diesel
* On 1st April 2010 all fuel duty rates will increase by .5p per litre plus inflation. As a result the specific duty rate will not be known until then.
* This means that the price of LPG at the pumps should continue at around half the price of petrol and diesel for the foreseeable future.

They also said this about Diesel and look at the price of that now!!

I wouldn't go the LPG route, just make sure you have at least two days a week that you drive very easily with no harsh acceleration.
I've been getting 42 MPG from my 230 BHP KO4 LCR.
I have a mate with a GT28r on a Leon Cupra getting 40 MPG driving the same way.
Believe me it is very possible, not fun but better than an LPG conversion which you would loose boot space, gain weight and have to pay a fortune for mapping cost (if there is someone out there that can map an LPG BT install.
You would limit your mappers as I doubt unless they've done loads of them anyone would take on this job.

Which part Bill? Cant remember where I saw the duty thing. I think it may have been in the csma motoring mag but not 100% sure. It was about the amount of mileage offsetting the cost of the kit and installing it and how many miles would have to be done to make it money saving before the duty cut was supposed to come off. Worked out to be more miles than the average driver did pa. The performance loss is common knowledge although its supposed to be better on some systems than others.
