There is a paper written by one if the Bosch engineers that mentions the better atomisation from higher pressure. I'll post a link of I can find it. The injector itself is perfectly happy with 4bar but the map needs to be tweaked for flow rate and latency. All the decent tuners will have these correction factors for all common injectors.

Personally I can't see any disadvantage from a 4bar upgrade.

If I were to play devils advocate whilst trying to learn about the subject matter, wouldn't the injector overheat more/become less accurate in dosing because it has to work harder due to the increased pressure?

If you look at the datasheet for most injectors they are specified at a range if pressures. 4bar isn't particularly near the limit. Sorry I can't post links to proper data as I'm on my phone.

Yes they are designed to run at different pressures, but as always there is a trade off with these things, does anyone know the injector duty cycle on a stage 1 LCR out of interest?

the disadvantage is whether the fuel pump can supply the fuel pressure PLUS boost pressure and sustain its flow. Weak pumps will not hold their 4bar + boost pressure and the fueling actually falls away faster..

LCR's have 4bar rated pumps... but old pumps are still old so its no guarantee (unchecked) that all pumps will happily juice 4bar reggys off the bat. Checking is the key word here.

Ah yes, good point. My perspective is a modest LC with moderate boost only.

Here's an excerpt from "The Bosch Fuel Injection and Engine Management manual by Charles Probst"...

“A positive side-effect of increased fuel pressure... is that forcing the fuel through the same injector at a higher pressure tends to improve fuel atomisation. This will tend to improve fuel distribution and combustion efficiency, and may contribute to improved fuel economy.

The benefits of higher pressure are accompanied by some additional concerns, the main one being safety. With fuel lines and connections being subjected to higher pressure, there naturally is an increased risk of leaks or outright failure. To ensure reliability, the standard Bosch parts are rated for pressures well above the normal operating range...”

what needs adjusting in unisettings?

i'd like to know this also guys?

as say that ive found my injectors nearing thier limit so install the 4 bar fpr, how much adjustment and what channel in unisettings would help?

many thanks.

i've had my car mapped twice never been mentioned by AMD or JKM?

i think if you go stage 3 power its a definite requirement nothing noted for stage 2

depending on map 4bar fpr is not even required only for safety?

If you want to check it maybe have a look on vag.com, but maybe your car was running below 85% duty cycle?
