Interesting thread this, Ive heard alot of good things about these blacksmoke maps, nice to see someone that had put one on a pd150 Leon as that's what I drive.
I cant see how the map is much different to what a lot of diesel tuning specialist's offer. Even if you take it to them, they RR it before and after it doesn't mean they are uploading a custom map for you. It just means they are proving your power figures.
S10EAT does the map make it smoke any more? Have you done anything to the EGR? Any management light come on since the map?
Hi,
Just thought I would give everyone an update on this!
First off this map isn't for everyone. I have had this map on for about a month and a half covering about 1000 miles.
My PD150 has 173,000 miles on it, so it's a perfect benchmark for anyone scared of breaking their engine with any less, not always the case but you get what I mean.
Well according to some of the data logging I have done MAF to BHP calculation (Rough guesstimate! don't quote me), I seem to be pulling around the 180bhp mark, with standard intercooler pipes and exhaust.
I knew when I first read about this map is that it is conservative one with the idea of keeping the torque lower and saving the clutch, the power is definitely in the mid-top end of the rev range, full boost seems to kick in later than the standard map.
This is not a torque busting tyre spinning map, there's not alot of torque produced low down so if you want one of those go for a REVO or AMD etc etc.
Because the power is higher up there is less chance of slipping the clutch, and I will be honest mine was slipping in 4th and 5th even before I put this map on. Like all decisions when putting a map on a car just make sure your clutch and turbo are in good shape.
Once you get to grips with having the power further up the rev range the map is great, smooth power from mid to top end.
I also noticed a MPG improvement of about 3-4 mpg. Normally average 38mpg but with the map about 42mpg on my work travel and other travel.
Bottom line is if you want a bit extra power on your PD150 but want to save your clutch from an early death then go with this map, but it's really only going to be good for people who do higher mileage and use their power for motorways, because to be honest this map sucks low down.
I've recently switched back to my original map because the power is better lower down than the blacksmoke map and I don't do very much mileage and it's fairly slow roads I drive on during the week and don't get the chance to use the power further up.
Don't know about everyone else's opinions but I like torque low down in my diesels, so what I am going to do is save for a more aggressive map and a sachs clutch and flywheel kit.
p.s EGR IS mapped out with this tune as well.
I hope this has helped clear a few things up and any questions please fire away.
Thanks,
S10EAT
