MOT fail

Okay so the car failed it's MOT this morning.

I'm so annoyed. The 2 tyres I had fitted last week, now both need replacing. One of them has a puncture (looks like a nail went through it and then came back out) in a place where it can't be repaired, and the other one has bulged on the inside edge! I know I've not hit any kerbs or anything with it, so I can only assume pot hole damage perhaps?

I had the spare on for the MOT due to the punctured one, but as the spare is a 14" steel and not a matching 16" alloy, it failed on that too.

And just to compound the misery it failed on it's LED sidelights being the wrong colour.

Hacked off to say the least!

And here's how I'm rolling right now.

Definitely makes mine the coolest Mk4 around.

did the tyres you bought not come with some sort of guarantee that they are not defective? I know that some scrappys guarantee the parts they sell. Long shot i know, but might be worth a try.

The one that was puncture repaired did, that was from a local used tyre place. I probably will go back with that one, however I don't hold much hope, it's not really his fault that something has since gone through the tyre. :(

The other one was from eBay, sold as all good, and it was for a week!

Maybe I'm being too honest.

Sorry to hear your new bad news......bet your gutted?? I would be. What you going to do about the tyres & sidelights??

My plan is to buy 2 new front tyres this week, I've got a choice really of new Hankook Ventus V12 Evos or Uniroyal Rainsport 2s for £150 inc fitting and balancing. Not bad for 205/45/16s I think.

I've still got the original sidelights so I'll shove them back in for the MOT.

At least it's nothing too awkward to sort out before the MOT man has a 2nd look, it could be worse!
Good luck on the (free?) re-test.

Right piss take about the tyres, on the upside though that's alright about the lights

I failed MOT on handbrake not having reserve travel and emissions.

I had LED Sidelights, tints and HId's and they wasn't mentioned. Sounds like a petty tester?

Can you put all 4 steelies on for the retest?

It really does suck when you have to replace 2 tyres, I remember when I got a puncture one night, got it replaced then the next night hit a kerb and popped the other side, wasn't happy :/ Gutted to hear about the MOT failure mate, and with regards to the LED sidelights, I left mine in and just swapped the HIDs for standard bulbs on my MOT and it passed, maybe he is being picky? Aslongs as your bulbs are white and aren't bright blue, then the highway code states your allowed the sidelights, or so the SEAT garage told me when I went for my MOT

I'm a MOT tester iv never failed a car with led side lights my mate has it's all down to the tester tbf. Some testers would fail it for a side light or a number plate bulb out. If I get a car in and it fails for just a bulb I'l just change it otherwise iv got to fill out a fail sheet let the person take it away to bring it back to take me of another job to check it put a pass on it to much messing around.

Least your car only failed on small things I failed a guys car last week and after he had the bill he wasn't best please £800ish on a old M reg mondeo lol

Cheers. Yup, free re-test as long as it goes back within 10 days, which it will. :)

I have to admit my supposedly "white" sidelights do look a bit more blue than most. I'm not too bothered about the sidelights I may just get a different pair to put in after the MOT.

I've got no steelies to put back on, sold them a while back and got a fiver more for them than I paid for my alloys!

I'm still trying to get over the fact they were 2 weeks old and now they're both fooked :headhurt:

Tell the bloke to save himself some money and scrap it

Don't look too hard  its a filthy disgusting mess at the mo!

Just waiting to get paid and I'll be ordering another £35 worth of detailing gear, then it'll get a proper clean. :)

In other news, the car now has the 2 new Uniroyal RainSport 2s fitted on the front. They seem quite good, almost identical to the Eagle F1s but for less money!

Order placed this evening, Mick. :D

Yup, the car has since passed it's MOT. I've also bought and fitted the same sidelights as you. They're definitely whiter than the other ones I had.

I've also painted my front calipers in red Hammerite, and the rear drums in black Hammerite. Meant to get some pictures today but failed.

Good to hear! What did you buy?

Thats good then.. Glad someone likes them haha. Atleast thats it done with for another year!

That's what I keep meaning to do, paint my calipers  Just haven't got round to it. Atleast I cleaned the car and remembered pictures tho.. unlike you! :p

Got Any Hammerite Going Spare? :D
Plenty! :D

I bought some Menzerna Power Finish (already got Power Gloss and Final Finish), Valet Pro high gloss tyre dressing and Bilberry wheel cleaner. Came to about £40. All dispatched today. :)

Painting the calipers is quite nice to do on a lovely warm bank holiday weekend, you know Mick :p prepping them is a bit tedious but it has to be done I suppose. At least now when I get my wheels refurbed I'll have some lovely looking calipers behind them. :funk:

Point taken on the pictures, I'll attempt to get some later!
