Hey Chris, just been reading through your thread mate, cracking work. I have a question about the door lock, was it easy to replace? What's involved?

Cheers

Chris,

It's a bit of a faff to be honest. I got a bit stuck with it and had to get my dad to help me finish it off.

You have to remove the door card (a number of screws along the bottom and side, a couple in the interior door handle), remove the outer door handle, then remove 2x rubber grommets to seperate the electric window mechanism from the glass. I'd recommend you tape the window up when you remove the glass from the window mechanism, or else it might fall down the bottom of the door and smash!

The actual mechanism virtually just unplugs, it's removing the above and getting at it which is a bit of a pain in the arse!

Hey mate, any more bein done to the car?

What's happening with your dials then, did Killie take them? Shame they didn't fit the car too.. looked well when they were in i'd say.

Thanks mate :D
Any piccies?
Can't find a locking mech. like that one you got from that site?

Cheers mateyyy
I was really lucky coming across that one for sale. Although if it helps, it is the same locking mechanism that is fitted to Mk4 Golfs and the VW new Beetle, as well as 9N Polos and Skoda Fabias (Mk1).

I've no piccies of the install, there is a guide with pictures though somewhere on here made by somebody who repaired his locking mechanism... I tried repairing mine but it only lasted 2 days!

I've been struggling for time lately mate, also I've got tax, MOT and insurance due within the next month. So the mods have been put on hold for a little while. I have bought two new Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 tyres for the front of the car though to replace the aging Bridgestones, may get them fitted this weekend.

Killie didn't take the dials, I think he'd rather wait for the right set to come up, which is the right thing to do I think. So whenever I do get the dials off, I'll let you know and you'll have first refusal. :)

I'm hoping to get them off next weekend, or maybe during the week before if I get home and it's still light outside. :)

Sounds good. I suppose ther isn't much point if he knows for sure that they won't fit. Sounds like they will fit mine though...

Don't think I'll refuse them if they're free! lol

i'll give u the postage charge if u want so it wont cost u anything to send them.

Was it just that the dials weren't lining up right? If you can gimme a guide on how to fit them when u get around to taking them out it'd be great. :)

Cheers mate, when they're off I'll PM you for your address and what not.

The problem I had with it was the numbers for revs and mph on the dials were in a different place compared to the standard one, because my standard rev counter goes 1, 2, 3 (x1000 rpm) whereas the new one reads 10, 20, 30 (x100 rpm) etc instead. So basically, it now looks like the bulbs illuminating the speedo are in the wrong position.

As for a guide to get them out... check out this link (post #17). Also be careful when removing the needles. They are quite stiff to remove, it feels like you're going to snap them but you're not. You just need to turn all the needles the opposite way to where they should go, and keep turning, until they eventually just clip off easily.

Might take some more later with a proper camera.

Looking great as ever Chris :D a facelift bumper would go down a treat (or painted struts on the grills as an alternative)

Had the day off work today so thought I'd go out and take some pictures of the car in the sunshine, unfortunately it seems everybody had the same idea and when I found somewhere to take pictures they were crammed full of people!

So I had to make do with another location.

Anyway...

And my interior as it stands today, managed to put my standard dial insert back in yesterday! :)

Looking good :) I love sitting in the back! I took a few pics yesterday as well but went to plug my usb cable into phone and the actual connector that's in the phone ended up coming out on the cable! So looks like it's broken :(

Cheers mate. Sounds like you're not having any luck getting pictures of your car :( not good when you've got a Cupra/FR rear bumper to show us! :p
I had a spectacular fail yesterday, turned up to a SCN meet in Preston and forgot to bring a camera. :banned:

The bumper is at the sprayers now :) He said should be done friday or saturday!

I have a meet on Sunday so should hopefully have bumper on and some piccies :)

Good stuff, looking forward to the pictures. I realised how badly my car needs some better bumpers after being at the meet last night with 3 other Mk4 facelifts...

To be honest, i think you can pull off the pre-facelift bumpers if you have fogs and the FR grills. I just saw a red facelift front going for £60 on ebay so thought it would be rude not to!

The rear bumper has really grown on me recently as well!

Dam fella you've put quite a lot of work in to this just read the whole thing - Awsome so far bud :D - I wish i had taken you up on your offer of VAG-com now lol i'm sure my car isn't right (underpowered maybe) not sure. Anyhoo good job on the motor looking good bud
