:censored:

So I need new rear tyres. For the 3rd time in 18 months. It's my 3rd pair of Goodyears that have needed replacing well before they are worn out. 1st pair went out of shape, 2nd pair, one bulged and the other suffered an unrepairable puncture, now one of the 3rd pair is slashed.

I'm sick of buying tyres for the bloody thing.

Options are a pair of Pirelli P-Zero Neros at £150 fitted, or Hankook V12 Evos for £162 fitted, or Uniroyal RainSport 2s to match the front at £172 fitted. Or just get some quality part worns for ~£60.

What do I do lads?

I'd try and buy new. Part worn are often 'repaired to so-and-so standard blah blah blah after puncture'.

Rainsports are meant to be great, not really heard of the other specific models however P-zero is a good series.

I'd have to agree with you, Chris. Unfortunately to buy new tyres would mean I'd have to wait until I've been paid, which is a couple of weeks or so away. So in the mean time I'd have to drive with the 14" steel spare on and keep my alloy with damaged tyre in the boot. :(

You looked at proxes? Mine seem to be lasting forever! Also I wouldn't shake a stick at a set if arrowspeeds, cheap and cheerful and they lasted nearly 2 years on my 1.2 with plenty of tread left.

I can't really see the point in forking out the 170 odd for uniroyals unless your running a lot of torque (no offence intended) just my quids worth :)

Can I ask where you get your theory Lawrie?

I'm sure all 3 tyres are good Chris, my experience of the Uniroyals on mine is only good. The rear feels steadier (sp) than the front and the wear doesn't seem too bad either.. Still got some of the coloured rings on them!

I feel that the less torque then the less need for specialist/performance tyres, they'll
Improve grip on corners certainly but at the end if the day I don't see there to be a great need for them unless you have more torque and need the traction on slippery roads to get moving (not necessarily thrashing it) but then again it's more down to personal opinion and I could also be wrong :)

Then do that :p
For 2 whole weeks! Ahh well point taken so it's a vote for the steel spare from Chris.

Point taken mate. Although I've always tried not to skimp on tyres. With the cost of my insurance, I'd be so angry with myself if I lost it on a wet road or something one day with cheap tyres, so I'm trying to avoid budgets where possible, and look at the more mid-range stuff.

I've looked into the Proxes but can't get them cheap enough, they seem dearer than the others I've mentioned. Am I looking in the wrong places? Heard some people say the prices of Toyos had gone up because of the tsunami in Japan. I'll look into the Arrowspeeds now.

When I had Bridgestones on the front and Goodyear rears, the rear always felt steadier! Although that completely changed when I put the Uniroyals on the front. The front now feels steadier than the back.

I can see your point, which is quite true. But on the other hand imagine going down the motorway at 70mph and its raining quite heavily. The design of the Rainsports is to disperse as much water as possible, giving more grip of the road - Torque has nothing to do with that, whereas the extra grip could be the difference between you losing it or not!

Yeah it's weird, even in the dry I feel like the back is more planted than the front! I'm going for the Rainsport 2's when I need new rubber on the front.

Finally had 2 new RainSport 2s fitted on Saturday! So the minging spare complete with the noisiest tyre known to man is gone. :)

Had to drop down a speed rating on the tyres though, from 83W to V, it seems that the W rated ones are on backorder everywhere with Uniroyal. :(

Right, pictures time. :D

Thought my service being due was a good excuse for a K&N panel filter

And I've done a little work on the front badge

So another update, of mega bargain finding proportions.

Won a pair of rear door cards/panels in black cloth to match the new interior I bought a little while ago. Had to trek to Nottingham and back for them but at 99p each they were worth it!

Fitted them today, I'm pretty happy. :)

Hopefully get some pictures tomorrow, it's too dark to do so now.

Yeah does look quite different! So much better than the old grey things.

I've found the facelift door cards have a rubbery feel and texture, and somehow it marks easily compared to the pre-facelift ones, which feel more plasticky and less rubbery, but don't show marks up as much. Strange, don't know why SEAT messed with them on the facelift.

Badge looks good Chris :) Also, great bargain on the door cards!
Cheers Mick :D
Did you apply for the BA FPP scheme btw? I remember you saying about going integrated...
Good question! Simple answer is I would have done... only I was already locked into going with my chosen FTO, and backing out would have cost the remainder of the course fees.

I'll probably PM you in a sec.
