Blown a hole in my LCR engine, help!

Blew a hole in my engine and sump the other day, the big end and rod has come through so I am in no doubt it's a replacement engine block at least! Absolutely gutted has only done 63k and seemed to be running well before it went bang!

The question I have is it was an AMK 210 on my 03 cupra r and was wondering if a BAM 225 will go in as a replacement? As far as I am aware they are the same just mapped differently but was wondering if it will cause ecu problems etc with it been a different code?

Any help would be much appreciated as I am hunting high and low for a decent replacement, thanks

bad Luck mate. I believe a Bam will work ok with an ecu adjustment but i'm not 100% if anything else will need changing as there are slight differences between the engines. Speak with Bill from Badger5 on here as he knows his 1.8T onions.
Besure to learn from your misfortunes and fit uprated rods in your new engine.;)

Yes I bought the car standard and have had it remapped to about 260bhp by a local custom guy specialising in VAG. Don't really want to name him as I'm not sure that the map alone would of caused it.
From what I understood the standard rods are rated enough to cope with a stage 1?

I am up for just getting another AMK just the reason I asked is the BAM seems alot easier to get hold of, probably due to them making more of them than the AMK I guess.

As for another remap I think it will be going back to standard after this nightmare I am having.

Hopefully I will get hold of something decent at a realistic price, I really don't want to have to get rid of it spares or repair as I love the car

He's not some random lol, has a good rep on other forums and vast experience with 1.8t engines.
Believe me I did my homework before letting someone loose on my pride and joy

apparently a good "healthy" engine "should" be ok at stage one according to badger5 but its still a risk with even standard engines doing rods. These engines do seem to be getting more unhealthy as they get older..

Well I had it mapped at about 55k and the engine was healthy, everything was checked over pre map. Regular servicing etc.etc since
Like you say things are 10 year old and maybe age has played a big part in it.

Cheers for the input just want to get a replacement amk or bam asap and get it back up running

That's terrible news, hope you get it sorted soon. Was there any other damage, cosmetic or otherwise, when it threw the rod?

I'm sure I remember reading that BAM and AMK are very similar engines but just run a slightly different map. As others have said, Bill will know.
