As title blue smoke when cold started just my luck I assume its the turbo.

Wah wah wah

Any body breaking a car with I think its a k03

Blue smoke on startup can also be valve guide oil seals.

The same seals can also cause slight blue smoke after long periods of ticking over.

Sounds better
I will check tomorrow morn as it had been ticking over for a bit as I always try to let it warm before driving it.
Also after I left the place I went to today I was in there for a couple of hours I checked the exhaust and there was no smoke.
So maybe as you have said
Please
Is it easier and or cheaper than turbo prob. If so that will please the missis

If its the turbo will it smoke straight away and same with the seals
Whats the best way to tell? Also do sent help my exhaust is leaking somewhere down the front not sure if its the cat/downpipe/manifold
I can here the turbo spool up louder when driving sounds like its behind passenger foot well and its holding boost so I would say its after turbo but I could be wrong. Any ideas???

Yea I'm not sure but will do seals first.
Is there a way of telling or is it just change them and find out after?

Thanks by the way

If its seals or piston ring / bore wear you can test for as follows :-

Find a steep hill and cruise down with your foot off the gas and engine on overrun ( ie engine breaking). near the bottom of the hill put your foot hard on the gas whilst looking in the rear view mirror . If you see a big puff of blue smoke just after you hit the gas pedal it confirms bore/ ring wear or most likely a valve stem seal gone . The smoke clears within a few seconds normally and does not persist until the next prolonged period of engine breaking. The reason is engine breaking creats a vacuum in the cylinders as opposed to pressure when driving on the gas. This vacuum sucks oil past the rings or the valve guides, if stem seal is weak . Oil also drains down the valve quides overnight from the worn valve stem seal creating the same problems on morning start up . However worn turbo bearings can allow oil to leak overnight too causing similar symptoms on start up . If the cold side seal is gone in the turbo the leaked oil goes through the engine and is combusted causing a blue coloured smoke . If the hot side turbo shaft seal is worn the oil is chucked into the exhaust and burnt off on hot surfaces of the exhaust . In the latter case the smoke tends to be grey rather than blue .... more like bonfire smoke . Although the difference can be quite subtle to detect.

Turbo pro repair ..... £250 up , depending on if just bearing failure of turbine shaft and wheels need replacing.
Turbo DIY kit £60 - 100 (dont forget turbine nut cold side is usually left hand thread )

Re leak sound behind passenger footwell ............. this must be pipework on intake side to turbo if not loosing your boost . Check the engine gas recirc / immission pipes and the pipes connecting onto the tip for leaks and that the TIP is still clamped onto the turbo securely.

Ok will try the hill test and about the "exhaust" it definatly sounds like its blowing. Hopfully get a a good look tomorrow from underneath

Definatly sounds like blowing and I left it ticking over dismorning to warm up/clear the windows and their was definitely smoke and when I went back out to the car it stank inside of smoke, burning oil fumes so had to drive a bit with open windows.

Nasty. Wah
