Bonnet Stay Failure

My bonnet came crashing down last night whilst filling screenwash bottle the plastic sheared on the stay fitting on the crash panel.Taking it to dealer today so they can see it.Their was no wind etc it just sheared off under the weight of the bonnet.

Not that this has happened to mine, but I do feel the bonnet stay is very weak compared with the weight of the bonnet. I've noticed mine flexing with the weight.

Shame they decided to penny pinch and not include gas struts like on the Mk1 Leon's, poor oversight by SEAT really.

Yup one thing I miss from my previous mk5 golf is the gas struts! I was very suprised the first time I opened up the leons lid to find that cheap metal stick instead!

yeah i've noticed this as well. how much / how easy would it be to get gas strut fitted?

Hi all took Car to local dealer Bannermans, they are ordering new panel , and said they would contact SEAT to advise of this happening. PLEASE PLEASE take note, as the plastic where the stay is fixed to the "Slam Panel" is very thin and looked brittle. If the steel pin closing mechanism on the bonnet caught your neck I think it could possibly kill someone.

in spain there is a DIY in how to put gas struts in the bonnet very easy to do it to be honest.


and i think they didnt put gas struts because of crash rating with them
