Boost gauge without cutting pipe

i've had a search about but cant find any decent references to this, but I have read that people install the pipe to a different place rather than cutting the pipe that is on the top of the recirc valve.

does anyone have any pics???

i'm wanting to do this as it may just be a tempory measure till i save some pennies up for one of those liquid gauges.....

you don't necessarily have to cut the pipe on the dv. just put a t-piece on the end of the existing vac pipe; then a short length from the t-piece to the dv; and you boost gauge feed from the free point on the t. hope that makes sense

Cool, i haven't got the engine to look at yet.... pick it up on tuesday.

I already have a 007P and a boost gauge to go on.
Am thinking about just going for a panel filter for now rather than an induction kit.... not really sure at the moment.

Have also just collected my radio facia today so that I can fit my JVC AVX44 dvd headunit.

Gonna be a busy night on tuesday fitting all this stuff - lol

I was under the impression that connecting into the vac pipe on the fuel-pressure regulator was the preferred method...but the principle is the same as in the above post.

yea, i think you might be right bcstudent; i've not fitted one so am not sure - its on my to do list:)

Well, personally, I fitted my tee-piece into the DV vac pipe...but that was before I read the threads about the best position. I can't say I've experienced any problems personally though. I will move it one day, just out of curiosity if nothing else.

just wondering - would i get any benefit from a panel filter, or should i just stick with the standard one until i have a few more pennies for a decent induction kit.

Do a search for smoothed airbox's, I'v smoothed mine and added a 3" feed pipe with a PiperX panel and I'm very happy with it, there's a lot of info on here about all method's of induction.

Defected!
My boost gauge is connected in the same way as D.K's and I've never had any problems. As far as air filters go, smoothed airbox is the way forward with a decent panel filter such as Green Cotton. Some induction kits can suffer from heat soak (depending where they are positioned).

Hi Mate, I am not too tecnically minded, but I too have a boost gauge that needs fitting to my LCR, is the vacuum pipe best to fit on the DV , and which is the vac pipe on the divertor valve ? are there any issues with fitting boost this way ?

i have actually fitted a boost gauge myself now so i can talk more knowledgeably :) the best place to t into is just after the fpr (fuel pressure regulator). If you remove your engine cover (2 screw locks) and then look on the right hand end of the fuel rail (front of engine just behind intake mani) you will see the fpr with a black vacuum pipe coming from it. If you remove this from the fpr, put it into your t-piece, then use a short piece of vac pipe to link the t to the fpr and use the spare point on the t for you boost gauge.. hope that makes sense

.thanks, that makes sense, but does the boost gauge come with electrical connectors, so where would the wiring on the electrical side of the boost gauge feed into ? or is the boost gauge just got a vac pipe and thats all ?

boost gauge has the vac pipe which goes to the fpr, and 4 wires. an earth, a switched live for needle illumination, a switched live for dial illumination and a permanent live for memory(on colour selectable ones). The common place to take power from is the headlight switch due to it having all the necessary sources; there is a guide somewhere, i'll dig it out in a min! i personally took my electrics from my radio iso loom because i was wiring in sat-nav, dvd, snooper etc all at the same time!

Thats great, I am learning alot from you. Now about the 'T' Piece, what size should it be, ie, 5mm, 8mm, 6mm ??? I also need some vac pipe, how long should this be, if I am looking at feeding from the fpr.

Also the following 'T' piece is being sold on ebay, is this relevant, its to stop vibrations in the boost gauge. Will I need this and what is this about, It goes on to sday, I quote, Mechanical boost gauges use a feed line from the turbocharger to directly measure boost pressure ???

5mm t-piece from memory. I bought the autogauge boost gauge from halfrauds; which is a damn good match for the lcr dials. it comes with a t-piece and some vac-pipe (not sure on the size, but fits their t-piece and gauge) which is long enough to reach fpr. However, the vac-pipe is see-through plastic and looks a bit cr*p so you may choose to replace it with something better quality - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RED-Samco-Vac...39:1|66:2|65:12|240:1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 or similar. That t-piece is the same t-piece you get included with the gauge, and the anti vibration thing is a gimmick as far as i can tell!! never heard anything about vibrating gauges before!
