Recently bought a 02 Leon Cupra 180 AUQ engine. ( used to have a Ibiza Cupra few years ago)

Bought it with suspected oil pump failure, but it was the oil pick up strainer that was blocked, a common issue with car not serviced or maintained regularly. so replaced with a new one and that was it sorted.

Now i have it running with out any oil pressure faults.

I have another issue i cant find the fault with, boost.

The car runs fine no smoke or rattles, when i first went to drive it the car seemed to spool up, not great as was bit hesitant, decided to do the N249 bypass hoping that would sort it out but it didnt, no boost still but i can hear a whizz noise like air leaking, i have found 2 breather pipes split the one under the manifold going to the pvc and the other was the head breather pipe.

Today i decided i would check all the intake pipes for fitment and splits. air intake from air box to tip seems fine, o ring and clip all secure.
Checked lower intercooler pipe to ally pipe and fit was fine but when i removed it to check for splits the inside of the pipe had oil residue and lots of metal fillings, the intercooler also poured out with oil.

This want what i was expecting to find, no trace of any fillings after the intercooler to intake side just from turbo to intake, not sure where it is from, going to take all boost pipes off tomorrow and tip and check turbo for damage even tho i can still feel it spool up

i put it all back together and made sure all jubilee clips were done up tight, still hear turbo spool up, can feel a bit of boost but nothing really,

checking the Turbo is my first job tomorrow morning as well as making up a diy pressure tester that i have seen a guide to on here to check for air leaks

Any other ideas, or things to check while i am at it,

just came across a video off of here with the same noise i can here while driving

I have been looking prices for replacing my turbo. Cheapest I have found is £460 +vat for a new genuine one from turbo dynamics. Seat quoted me £1300 +vat :O! Sounds like you just have a leak somewhere though, hopefully that's the case. Definitely wise to check the turbo though given the cars history.

Just poppes to BQ to see if I can get some bits together to make a tester today but they fidnt have any caos to plug the pipe off so will have to order them online an try leak test in the week.
Will take off pipes an check turbo now

Took the air intake to turbo pipe off and turbo to lower intercooler ally pipe off to check turbo.
wasn't able to check the actual turbine fins or shafts due to the metal pipe attached to turbo housing.

Pipes looked ok no splits or oil so fitted it all back up.

blocked the intake pipe from air box off and tried to fill the system with air to check gor leaks.
what I found was a big air leak coming out the baffled silencer insert.

Is this silencer replaceable?
I took a few pictures and video to show it.

does this mean new turbo or is it repairable?

I think I have a similar problem to yourself.

Can hear my turbo spinning up fine, but I can hear almost like a hissing sound when accelerating. Just feels to be holding back and using a bit more fuel than normal.

I think I may have a split or a hole in one of the boost pipes. The car is still running all original hosing and is on an 03 plate.

after relentless hours searching on here and google of what it could be i decided to try and do an leak test, i used a guide off of here and made up a crude tester using a tin off spray to block the air intake and jammed an air gun in a hole to feed air into the system and thats how i found this leak

guide is here http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=269836&highlight=leak+test

as soon as i done this it showed my leak straight away, give it a try you have nothing to loose but plenty to gain Lol

Just got to decide what to do about the leak, might try a chemical metal to seal the leak if not its a new turbo

I think I may just go ahead and replace all the boost hoses.

My cars on an 03 plate so the hoses must be deteriorated by now. I heard somewhere that over time the structure of the hose breaks down so under boost they collapse. This cannot be good for overall performance.

That was what i was looking to do, when i found a split hose but i fancied a play and making a leak tester, glad i did else i would of missed this one.

Once i get this sorted i will be replacing boost and breather hoses, just go to decide what colour to go for haha

Thinking about hoses, could I not just get a reducing elbow or coupler to fit the OD of the silencer then 90deg onto the ally outlet pipe. Its only leaking air so if covered by a pipe it all works as it should still?
