When I bought my Leon, it had a remap on it. It was only discovered a couple months later by the car dealer I purchased it from. Apparently it was corrupted and they put the stock map on.

I'm just thinking, if the dealer sold me the car with the remap on it, then took it off, shouldn't they put another remap on free of charge? (...and without affecting the warranty) Because I believe that if I test drove the car with the remap on, then they take it off after I buy the car, they have mis-represented it as the engine's performance was one of the key selling points of the car...

you will probably find the car had a software update carried out when it went in and this will wipe the remap
try to find out where it was done and they might reinstate it for you otherwise its tough luck mate i believe

No it wasn't a software update. Actually they removed it because they said it was corrupted and it was causing problems such as poor MPG, excessive black smoke and extreme turbo lag in gear 1.
But they should have checked it before selling the car, right?

Was this from a main dealer?

That 'remap' sounds like it was sh!te, you should be thanking the dealer for taking it off your car, not moaning because they didn't give you another one free of charge:rolleyes:

They didn't advertise it as having a remap on it so why should they have to pay to have software installed on it?

I think there is a way to find out if a car has been remapped but I don't think the dealers have the tools to do it

they probably took it for a test drive, realised it wasnt running right, guessed there was a remap on it, and to be on the safe side, wiped it and put the standard one back on.

Well, the only difference returning it to stock has made is it doesn't smoke so much now and engine idle rpm is bit lower. Maybe I should be thankful because the remap would have accelerated the wear and tear but they have the facilities to check so they should have checked it before they sold the car. Also it had the map for 22,000 miles.
I don't want to come across as being a 'boy racer' but when I did floor it, it made me smile so much and I loved it, but now it feel's a boring.

sounds like a very basic remap, although you do have a good point that the car is now not as tested, so you could argue for them to take it back.
or subsidise a proper remap. they may not be too keen to do that.

alternatively ask them for a part refund, £150 or something for the extra fuel costs etc and put that towards a decent remap

Thank's for your input guys. I've decided that after multiple times of taking the car to the dealer, that it's best to keep it standard for now. The car dealer has spent alot of time and money sorting out other issues on the car which is something I should take into consideration.
