is there any difference between a Blow off valve and a dump valve?

Yep - one causes your CEL light to come on and one doesn't

Technically - BOV dumps to atmosphere (bad on VAG cars) whereas DV diverts the air back into engine, so keeps engine management system happy

Sorry, read it wrong - BOV and dump valve are same thing - dump to atmosphere, what VAG's need is a diverter valve or recirculating dump valve

Do a search mate,plenty of threads on this BOV not good for car's.

Split R and turbosmart are the only 2 I know of that can actually blow off approximately 30% to atmosphere (70% back in engine) and not cause EML to come on.
Other options are forge 007 and bailey and sure there is more but as said searchy searchy

don't go for the split-r please

forge 007p, will still give a slight woosh if that's what you want

You need to stick with a recirculating diverter valve mate, either the Forge 007P or the Forge Splitter are a good choice with the Splitter giving slightly more noise but the 007P being our prefered choice.
