Hi,

Im just about to replace my front brakes and was after some opinions on which of the following setups i should go for....

Car is a 1.8T FR (6L)
Standard (no suspension or engine tweaks yet, apart from open cone filter)
Wheels standard 17" FR/Ibiza alloys
Tyres: Michelin Pilot Sport 3 205/40/17
Has 288mm discs on with 1 pot calipers as standard....

OPTION 1

Sticking with stock (288mm) disc size and going with

DISCS
Black Diamond drilled and grooved discs £128

PADS
Black diamond predator brake pads £49

Total (not inc delivery as I will pick up) £179

OR

OPTION 2

I can get a bigger disc kit (312mm) which is

DISCS
Vented (no groove and not drilled) 312mm Pagidor EBU Ultimax (Pagidor is OEM)

PADS
Pagidor EBU Ultimax (Pagidor is OEM)

CALIPERS
OEM Single pot, reconditioned (shot blasted and powder coated with a colour of my choice)

Total (inc delivery) £260

So I cant decide;

1) Which will give me better stopping power
2) Which will be cheaper to maintain i.e. buying new pads and how often
3)Which is better value for money (because we all love to know we getting a good deal ;) )

Any help or opinions on this would be greatly appreciated; I dont have a stack of cash to throw at this so I need to make sure I'm making the right call.... :D

Cheers

Ash

I have 312mm Lucas (single pot - Audi S3 brakes) and they are really good!

If you stamp on the brakes too much the back end gets a little skittish...

312mm sets you can get on eBay for about £100-120. You'll need Calipers and carriers along with discs and pads. They are pretty much plug and play.

I have Pagid discs and pads and they are plenty us cheaper than 288mm EBC pads and vented discs etc...

iv got mtec discs on my seat sport ap racing 4 pots, got them for 70 quid grooved and dimpled, seam spot on, there 312mm so probs wouldn't pay the extra for black diamond discs, pads iv got are black diamond predator fast road and tbh think there only just better than oem, did test on them the other day and the disc was roasting and while i never got fade i did want extra bite, personally wish id gone for the ds2500s but if u do get the predator pads mine didn't come with anti squeal and they can make noise from time to time plus there best temp is over 100 below that there not great, personally id go for the 312 on oem or mintex discs and pads if you don't want to break the bank
