HI all, hope you can help

Well things dont seem to have got any better after replacing the upper breather pipe. The general smoothness of the engine has gone and now feels a bit lumpy and somewhat sporadic.

I still get this 'hunting' (as a chap on here coined the phrase recently) where the revs raise slightly every 7 secs on idle and below 2500rpm in every gear. This momentary blip/jerk forward is really p@s5ing me off! Strangely enough, when I have the A/C on it doesn't seem to do it - almost like the engine has something else to concentrate on.

When replacing the upper breather pipe (which I thought was the cause) I did, as many of us have done, crack the harder plastic lower breather pipe. I've used thick masking tape on the split for now but do plan to get that changed soon. I dont think this is causing the problem though

In general, the power is still there and, as said, after 2500rpm things get a lot smoother

Any ideas? anybody had similar problem?

cheers guys/gals

Could be fuel pump on it way out? Check you plags make sure there clean of even change them clean air filter and pipes sounds to me like it's struggling when it not pulling in anything fast

hunting on idle? Dirty throttle body?

if you haven't done it recently, get a gasket, give it a clean with some carb cleaner, re-fit and then do a TB alignment with vagcom

Whereabouts in staffs are you? I'm in macclesfield, Cheshire and I've got vagcom.

cleaning is really easy. remove top IC to TB hose, and cover it to stop crap falling in, unbolt TB from inlet manifold (4x hex head bolts) clean with some carb cleaner and refitting is the reverse, not forgetting to slip a new gasket on (£2 from a dealer)

I could give you a hand with it and a TB reset with vagcom if you need.

Mine used to jump about at idle and flat spot about 2k revs

here's a before and after of my TB.

If it makes u feel any better im having the exact same problem in every way [:@]

Ive checked and changed the plugs, the top breather looks ok but as you did i managed to crack to plastic one underneath so im gonna just change the whole lot for some silicon hose and t-peices this weekend but from what you have said that probably aint the problem

I managed to source a brand new MAF today to try but when i fitted it the car ran even worse?? Maybe wrong one?? :wtf:

Thats very kind mate, and cheers for the offer of help. I'm a bit apprehensive about removing anything myself, I'm normally worried about breaking something or not able to put it back!;) Your knowledge would be appreciated

I'm at J14 on M6 - you're a couple of junctions up and off to the right I think (nice part of world near the peaks yeah!?)

I'm away all weekend but next week could take a run up after work if you'd be up for that? I'm happy to work around what you can do etc

Mate, I feel the pain - Its more of an irritation than anything, it sounds as though your're having more issues than me but we'll see if one of us can solve the problem between us :D

By the way, do you know the part number for the plastic pipe that we both cracked!?

If it's the plastic pipe that goes down from the Y-shaped breather and down to the PCV valve, you need part number 06A103213AF if a cupra 180, if it's a cupraR (210 or 225) you need 06A103213AK

My upper and lower breathers both failed, so I fitted an upgraded silicone upper one and replaced the lower one with a straight length of 19mm silicone hose.

I'm free most monday & wednesday nights 6pm onwards and most weekends If you want to come and sort your TB, I'm not guaranteeing it's whats causing your problem, but if it's never been done, it'll be like mine. 73k miles of crap on it. Can only be of benefit, and for the sakes of £2 I'd say it's probably worth doing every other service at least.

Thanks for the part numbers mate :)
Im going to replace the whole lot with 19mm i think and see what that does, not sure if my TB has ever been done and since i dont have vagcom handy i cant really do much with it but its just turn 95k so if its never been done then it will need it id say!

Cheers for the part no. Jonesy. thats great. Although looking at yours I might do the same and just use some silicon hose maybe as I have an after market silicone y-shape breather already.

Great about meeting up, i'll check out what I'm up to next wednesday and if its cool with you i'll get to you for about 6. Even if its a case of running VagCom for now, having a chat about stuff and seeing what you've done/bought, that'd be great

where did you get your gasket/carb cleaner from?

cheers buddy speak soon

The gasket was from my local dealer, part number 028129748, about £2.50

I got mine from my local AUDI dealer, as I don't have a seat dealer in my town, although You can get them from and VW, Audi, Seat or Skoda dealer (whichevers nearest)

Got the carb cleaner from toolstation, again about £2.50 for a 400ml can, although if you want me to give you a hand, i've got plenty left, so no need to worry about that.
