Hi all, sorry to make one of my first posts a request for help but here goes.
First of all let me give you a little bit of background info on myself and the car. I know a small ammount about the workings of a car but definately not alot, so please excuse me if I seem to be a little stupid.
As for the car, it is a Leon Cupra, which according to the gentleman I baught it off last week has no moddifications asside from an induction kit (which to me appears to be just a cold air feed going into the original airbox and a remap. He says it was originaly done by revo however there was somthing not right about it so he then had it done by Performance Torque (in wombourne/wolverhampton he said if i remember correctly).
He said that it was running approx 210bhp and from driving it i'd say that felt about right. The boost guage was showing the turbo spiking up to 17/18psi and then resting at 14/15psi.
Now for the problem. I took it on a motorway journey last night (approx 150 miles each way). When i was about 10 miles from arriving home i put my foot down going down a hill (manor way, halesowen for those of you that know the area) and it boosted up properly but then the boost just dropped down to 5psi and the engine management light came on, i put my foot down again and it would only boost up to 5psi, slowed down again and then tried again and got 10psi.
I went slow for the next mile of my journey (I know I should have probably pulled over but i was very tired and not realy thinking at the time) and then the engine manangement light went off and it was driving like normal again.
Great I thaught, just a little hiccup but then I noticed that while holding 14/15psi now it makes quite a loud noise that sounds like some one is running a stick along a metal fence. The noise sounds like it is coming from the right hand side of the engine bay. It does not make the noise if I rev the engine whilst stationary, however the turbo doesnt spin up fully while stationary either.
I'v had a look around the engine bay and nothing looks out of place up top. I took the cam belt cover off to make sure it wasnt just that rattling (it wasn't) and I noticed that there is oil splattered on roughly the bottom third of it. I checked underneath and there is a bit of oil on a the pipes underneath (im not able to name them sorry).
I can't see that any oil has leaked while it has been parked outside my house and the oil may be irrelavant because I know that recently before I baught the car it had a major service and had the head re-conditioned, the oil may have just been spilt then. Every other bit of the engine looks very clean though so I am unsure.
Sorry I couldn't be anymore detailed but I have put everything that I can think of. If anyone can give me suggestions they will be very much appreciated, not to worry if you cant though. I would take it into a garage to have it looked at but I wont be able to afford it for a couple of weeks.
Thankyou very much for your time, Alex.
