Hi folks, Currently have a mk2 Ibiza GTi 2.0 8v. She's been a great car and very reliable. Have modded her a little but nothing fast & furious and she has been quite easy to work on and have enjoy'd ownership of the ibiza.
Time has come to upgrade and I want a Mk3. Now my understanding is the chassis and running gear is almost the same as the Mk2 as is the interior.
I've started looking around for a Mk3 Cupra. I think the R is slightly out of my budget but the Cupra looks tasty to me.
I would like some advise on the turbo engine + box really. I assume its VW and is generlly reliable as long as the belts are changed at 60k (?) and regualry serviced. I know nothing about turbos though. I have read through the discussions about the dump valve and understand that this engine does not appreciate the DV. I'm not into tuneing really and want a reliable comfotable sporty car, like my Mk2 but newer. I had a bad expeirience with a mates RS Turbo throwing a rod through the block whilst on full boost. It was awesome but it went woooosh, bang, smoke. This is why i ask
Same with the gearbox really. I had to replace the 020 gearbox on my 8v as the 2nd gear crunched whilst changing at anything over 2 1/2 revs. Does the Mk3 have a better/stronger box than the 02 type. I was told the sync failling was a commen problem.
Just to be a pain, last question really.
I want to know about the sound system. From searching I found it is possible to add an amp and sub to the standard headunit. What is the standard units output? Is it possible to install a seperate headunit if the standard one is rubbish (is it rubbish?) Did all Cupras come with a tape deck? and were all of them fitted with the changer in the boot? Are the speakers adequate. I like my sounds loud. Oh and are the parcel shelves the same Mk2 to Mk3?
Cheers folks
